(FINAL) STONY POINT 54, BEAUMONT UNITED 46

Villanova signee Josiah Moseley celebrates during the first half of Stony Point's Class 6A state semifinal game against Beaumont United on Friday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Villanova signee Josiah Moseley celebrates during the first half of Stony Point's Class 6A state semifinal game against Beaumont United on Friday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Stony Point hangs on, beating Beaumont United 54-46 to reach its first state title in program history. The long-awaited rematch of the top two UIL teams in Texas — Plano East and Stony Point — is set for Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

Uzziah Buntyn and Josiah Moseley had 19 points apiece for Stony Point, which was just enough to overcome a 27-point outing from Clarence Payia and state powerhouse Beaumont United.

4Q

-- Ping-pong. Clarence Payia drills another 3 (his fourth in six attempts), but Stony point strikes right back. Around two minutes to go.

-- What a sequence. Weston Davis makes an acrobatic save of a loose ball out of bounds, flips the ball ahead and it finds Clarence Payia who nets a go-ahead 3-pointer. (44-43, Beaumont | 3:14)

-- Beaumont point guard Ashton Green, a junior, leaves the game with five fouls with around five minutes left in the contest.

-- Weston Davis with a massive rejection at the rim. He's been quite a presence down low all game. He has 13 boards and four of those have come on the offensive glass.

-- Beaumont United 6-foot-5 forward Clarence Payia, a Louisiana Tech commit, has been terrific. He drills a 3 to put Beaumont United up two in the opening minute of the quarter, and has led the Timberwolves with 20 points (8 of 8 shooting).

-- Josiah Moseley has found his rhythm. He has 18 points and has hit 8 of 14 shot attempts, in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

FIRST HALF

-- Beaumont United's Weston Davis, the 6-foot-5 LSU-signed four-star lineman, has complemented his hulking presence with his soft left-handed touch around the rim. He has two points and a game-high six boards in the first quarter.

-- Hot start for Stony Point's Uzziah Buntyn, who jolts into a passing lane and scores a contested fast break layup off the glass through a foul, completes a three-point play, then hits a corner 3 on the ensuing possession.

PREGAME READING

-- Tipoff appears to be delayed.

-- Tough blow for Beaumont United. Star point guard Kayde Dotson is in a suit on the bench. The 18-points-per-game scorer and New Mexico signee is inactive.

-- If Stony Point is truly on a crash course for a rematch with Plano East in the title game, it must get through Louisiana Tech-bound Clarence Payia (17.4 point per game), LSU-signed lineman Weston Davis (9.2 points, 10.5 boards per game) and Beaumont United.

-- Stony Point is seeking its first state title appearance in school history, whereas a Beaumont United win would send it back for the fourth consecutive year.
