Texas high school boys basketball: Live score, UIL 2A/4A/6A state semifinals updates recap (3/8/2024)

After a jam-packed first day, three more classifications are setting championship matchups into stone on Day 2 of the Texas (UIL) high school basketball state semifinals on Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Lipan beat New Home in overtime and Shelbyville downed Thrall in Class 2A during the first two games of the day. Canyon Randall plays Silsbee at 1:30 p.m. and Stafford takes on Oak Cliff Faith Family at 3 p.m. in Class 4A.
At 7 p.m., national No. 12 Plano East faces Mansfield Lake Ridge and national No. 20 Stony Point faces Beaumont United in Class 6A.

If Josiah Moseley (Villanova) and Stony Point are truly on a crash course for a rematch with Plano East in the title game, it must get through Louisiana Tech-bound Clarence Payia (17.4 points per game), LSU-signed lineman Weston Davis (9.2 points, 10.5 boards per game) and Beaumont United.
New Mexico-committed guard Kayde Dotson is in a suit and listed as inactive.

-- That's it. Plano East pulls away and keeps its perfect season alive at 39-0.
-- Plano East has out-rebounded Mansfield Lake Ridge 37-18, which has been the difference on a night when both teams are shooting around 43 percent from the field. In addition to Hall, Isaiah Brewington and Xavier Miller has six points apiece.
-- Amir McMillan has 16 points early in the fourth on 8-for-14 shooting to lead a Lake Ridge team that is shooting the ball well (45.7 percent) despite going 1-for-10 from 3. His ability to break down the Plano East defense and get to the rack effortlessly has been key to keeping up.

Jordan Mizell has 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting and four boards (three offensive) on through three quarters as Plano East holds onto a double-digit lead. DJ Hall is inching toward a double-double (nine points, eight rebounds — five offensive), but is having a noticeable off-night: 4-for-12 shooting, six turnovers and three fouls.

CLASS 4A SEMIFINALS

4A CHAMPIONSHIP: Silsbee vs. Oak Cliff Faith Family, Saturday, 7 p.m.
(FINAL) OAK CLIFF FAITH FAMILY 59, STAFFORD 40
Isaac Williams hits a step-back jumper to beat the first half buzzer and send Oak Cliff Faith Family into the break with a 15-point lead.
The defending UIL Class 4A state champ Eagles didn't look back from there, racing to a 59-40 win to advance to Saturday's titile.
Williams led all scorers with 19 on 9 of 14 shooting. Doryan Onwuchekwa finished with a game-high 10 boards for the Eagles.
Faith Family shot 53 percent from the field, outscored Stafford by 20 in the paint and hit five 3s to the Spartans' two.
FINAL: SILSBEE 75, CANYON RANDALL 68
Lamarcus Bottley Jr., scored 23 points and Jared Harris added 21 to lead Silsbee past Canyon Randall into Saturday's Class 4A championship.
Silsbee had its largest lead of the game (9) with 3:21 left, but Canyon Randall cut it to four with 1:40 left, but the Tigers held on.
For Canyon Randall, KJ Thomas scored a team-high 19 points and hit 8 of 11 free throw attempts and Tayesen Combs added 18 points, including four 3s.

CLASS 2A SEMIFINALS
2A CHAMPIONSHIP: Lipan vs. Shelbyville, Saturday, 1:30 p.m.
For 2023 champion Lipan, the Alamodome trophy celebration feeling is still fresh. After beating New Home in overtime, can it go back-to-back in 2A?

FINAL: LIPAN 40, NEW HOME 39 (OT)
Court Gaylor scored 27 points, including five 3-pointers, and notched three steals and Lipan scored an overtime win after a game-winning shot attempt was.
Caleb Cook finished with 17 points, seven boards and three steals and hit both of his 3-point attempts to lead New Home.
Cook appeared to hit a floater at the overtime buzzer that would have won New Home the game, but the play was reviewed and officials ruled the shot did not beat the buzzer.

FINAL: SHELBYVILLE 67, THRALL 52
DJ Barnes notched 23 points and four assists and hit 3 of 5 3-point attempts to help Shelbyville pull away from Thrall in the 2A semifinals. Ja'Davi Mathis scored 10 of his 22 points at the free throw line, where he went 10-for-14, and Eli Fergusen pitched in 12 points all on 3s.
Thrall had four double-digit scorers, led by Dawson Meiske's 17 points and 15 boards — nine on the offensive glass. Steven Walker had a double-double as well: 13 points and 10 boards.
Shelbyville out-rebounded Thrall 23-6 on the offensive glass and shot 48 percent from the field, hitting the same amount of shots on 20 fewer attempts.
