Throughout the year, SBLive takes a look at the top high school athletes across the Lone Star State each week, gathering the top performers and putting the best of the best up for reader vote.

Ty Annoura, Houston Clear Lake boys wrestling

Competing at the 21st Annual Cypress-Fair ISD Tournament, he posted a 5-0 mark and took first place in the 126-pound division. He is now 33-1 on the year.

Aiden Buckmon, Woodlands College Park boys basketball

In a 91-49 win over New Caney on Friday, the Cavaliers got 30 points from the junior guard, who drained 5 3-pointers. On Tuesday, he had 35 points in an 86-67 win over Conroe.

Charlotte Cavin, Frisco Wakeland girls basketball

The freshman scored 19 of her 21 points in the first quarter to set the tone in a 70-10 win over Carrollton R.L. Turner on Jan. 2.

Ariana Chavez, Borger girls wrestling

She went 4-0 to take first place in the 235-pound bracket at the 23rd Annual Lady Horns Classic in Amarillo. All four wins were by pins.

Jamal Chretien II, Katy Mayde Creek boys basketball

The junior scored a team-high 27 points to help the Rams secure a 69-65 win over Katy Morton Ranch on Tuesday.

Brayden Davidson, Garrison boys basketball

In a low-scoring game on Jan. 2, Davidson’s jumper at the buzzer helped the Wildcats beat Gary, 33-31.

Jamarrion Davis, Douglass boys basketball

The freshman tallied 22 points to help the Indians pick up a 61-42 win over Alto on Tuesday.

Giancarlo Don, Klein Forest boys soccer

In a 6-0 win over Fort Bend Clements on Saturday at the Katy Mojo Shootout, the senior had three goals and added an assist.

Kaitlyn Edmondson, Flower Mound girls basketball

The senior and Eastern New Mexico commit had a game-high 32 points to help the Jaguars pick up a 71-58 win over Flower Mound Marcus on Friday.

Amaree Garmon, Lubbock-Cooper boys basketball

In a 63-51 win over Lubbock Coronado on Jan. 2, Garmon had 32 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals for the Pirates.

Jacqueline Gonzalez, El Paso Horizon girls soccer

In a 5-0 win over Fabens on Monday, the senior accounted for four goals for the Scorpions.

Karlie Haigood, Corpus Christi Calallen girls basketball

She had a game-high 22 points, which included six 3-pointers. The last 3 was the game-winner in a 47-46 win over Tuloso-Midway on Friday.

Adley Halligan, Houston St. John’s girls basketball

The senior point guard became the Mavericks’ all-time scoring leader with her 1,294th point on Friday in a 39-35 win over St. Andrew’s Episcopal in Austin.

Jacob Henry, Austin Vandegrift boys wrestling

The senior went 7-0 and pinned his way to the title in the 285-pound bracket at the Texas Outlaw Tournament held Friday and Saturday in Allen.

Brenna Howard, Sadler S&S Consolidated girls basketball

In a 92-10 win over Pilot Point on Jan. 2, Howard scored a new school record of 39 points for the Rams. Her mom previously held the school record with 32.

Mecalin Marshall, Abernathy girls basketball

The Antelopes got a game-high 34 points from the junior guard in a 62-46 win over Lubbock-Cooper Liberty on Friday.

Yahaira Martinez, Amarillo Palo Duro girls soccer

She scored 9 goals in three wins for the Dons in the WT Freeze Classic held this past week at West Texas A&M.

Sam McKinney, Buda Johnson boys basketball

The 6-foot-7 senior had 18 points, including the game-winner at the buzzer, to beat Austin Westlake on Jan. 5.

Donovan Mozer, Canutillo boys basketball

In a triple overtime win over El Paso Bel Air, 76-74, Mozer had a game-high 18 points for the Eagles in the Jan. 2 victory. He followed up with a team-high 15 in a 54-45 win over El Paso Hanks on Friday.

Milan Norman, Lewisville girls basketball

In a District 6-6A game, the junior hit a jumper at the buzzer for a 59-58 win over Plano West on Friday for the Fighting Farmers.

Tessa O’Neill, El Paso girls soccer

In the El Paso ISD Tournament, she had 10 total goals in four games — all wins — for the Tigers. She had hat tricks against El Paso Pebble Hills, El Paso Socorro and El Paso Franklin.

Alex Orquiz, El Paso El Dorado boys soccer

The junior had a hat trick in a 4-0 win over El Paso Cathedral in the season opener on Jan. 2.

Trenton Patterson, Richardson boys basketball

The senior sank the game-winning shot to knock off defending state champions Lake Highlands on Tuesday, 52-50.

Jasmine Robinson, Allen girls wrestling

The senior posted a 6-0 mark — all on pins in less than 1:30 — to secure first place in the 165-pound bracket at the Texas Ladies Outlaw tournament on Saturday.

Layla Romero, Randall girls basketball

Romero hit a buzzer-beating basket to lift the Lady Raiders to a 54-52 win on Friday, the first win over Canyon since 2007 and snapped Canyon’s winning streak in district play that dated back to 2018.

Carter Scott, Collinsville boys basketball

The Pirates picked up a 54-46 win over Tioga on Tuesday behind nearly a triple-double from Scott with 19 points, 16 rebounds and 7 steals.

Jarrius Smith, Galveston O’Connell College Prep boys basketball

The junior tallied 20 points and added 20 rebounds in a 77-26 win over Baytown Christian on Tuesday.

Makayla Wilson, Denton Guyer girls soccer

The freshman had three goals and an assist in four games at the Frisco Dr. Pink Invitational this week.
