Gordon beats Westbrook: Live score, updates of Texas high school football championship (12/13/2023)
UPDATE: The first Texas high school football state 6-man championship has been crowned. Gordon defeated Westbrook 70-20 in a third quarter Mercy Rule to win the Class 1A Division I championship on Wednesday. The Longhorns (15-0) unseat the defending state champions to win their first UIL state crown since 1999 and third in program history.
Texas high school football state championship week is here. Gordon and Westbook face off to start the action on Wednesday in UIL Class 1A Division I (6-man).
The game is set for an 11 a.m. (Central time) kickoff. The matchup is a part of UIL state championship week at AT&T Stadium with 12 games being played from Wednesday to Saturday, three games per day.

THIRD QUARTER
-- Riley Reed was named offensive MVP and Kaden Crowe defensive MVP of the 1A Division I championship game.
-- That's the game. Sophomore Striker Reed takes a direct snap the distance from more than 25 yards out and Gordon unseats Westbrook as the 1A Division I champion via Mercy Rule.
-- Westbrook starts its drive on the Gordon 37. On 4th and 11, running back Grayson Jeffrey hits lineman Jaxson Browne for a 24-yard first down to the Gordon 13-yard line.
-- Gordon opens the second half with a 44 lead and an onside kick attempt.
FIRST HALF RECAP
It's the Riley Reed show. The Longhorns (14-0) jumped on the defending champs early and blew the doors off the game in the first half.
Reed, a do-it-all sophomore, scored five touchdowns — three rushing, one receiving and an interception return — in the first half to help Gordon explode out of the gate to a big lead.
Reed scored his three rushing touchdowns in five total carries, the longest a 74-yard dash to put Gordon up 48-14 with 7:16 to play in the first half. That touchdown came one drive after he returned an interception 65 yards to the house.
