Lexington's Cam Scott named 2024 Gatorade SC Boys Basketball POY

Texas commit claims the honor for a second consecutive year

Cam Scott of Lexington High School is the 2023-24 Gatorade South Carolina Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound senior guard led the Wildcats (28-2) to the Class AAAAA state title this past season, averaging 22 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.5 assists. A 2024 Naismith Award Watch List honoree, Scott was also the Class AAAAA Player of the Year and will graduate as the only four-time All-State selection in program history. He concluded his prep career as the school record-holder for career points (2,475), the single-season record-holder for steals (100) and the single-game record-holder for points (43).

Scott has volunteered locally on behalf of Midlands Orphan Relief and the Special Olympics. An altar server at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in North Charleston, he has also donated his time as a youth basketball coach and as a gift-wrapper for foster kids. “I would have to say that Cam Scott is the guy this year,” said Bart Lee, head coach of River Bluff High School. “He’s super-talented and makes the game look easy. His team won the state title and his game is remarkably complete.”

Scott has maintained a 3.02 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball on scholarship at the University of Texas this fall.
