Aydin Breland announcing Saturday; Oregon Ducks buzz growing for 5-star defensive lineman

Mater Dei (California) five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland is down to Georgia, Miami and Oregon

Mater Dei (California) five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland is down to Georgia, Miami and Oregon and set to announce his commitment Saturday.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound mauler is rated the nation's No. 6 overall prospect and No. 2 defensive lineman, making him the highest-rated uncommitted prospect in America.

Even before his top three was announced in mid-September, Georgia, Miami and Oregon had emerged as the teams to beat.

>>>> Prediction: Oregon Ducks poised for huge recruiting hot streak

Recently, however, the Bulldogs were projected to be heavy favorites following a late visit to Athens.

But the winds are shifting on that front.

Early in the 2024 cycle, I was told Breland's recruitment would be one of the most difficult in the country to predict until the end.

On Friday, Dan Lanning attended Breland's game and the Ducks have put on a full-court press late.

Now, it seems Oregon may be in good shape to land both Breland and Salpointe Catholic (Arizona) five-star edge-rusher Elijah Rushing

I noted Tuesday morning that the "Breland to Georgia" buzz may have been premature, and now On3 has Oregon as a favorite to secure his commitment, leading Georgia 51.1 percent to 39.4.

That follows what I'm hearing.

Oregon has closed the gap and has some serious momentum late.

Still, I'd go back to this: I was told Breland would be a tough prediction to the very end.

Today isn't the end.

So, don't count your chickens... or ducks... before they hatch.

The month-long build-up of Breland being a lock to go to Georgia is dissipating fast and this is a battle to the bitter end.

Oregon is firmly in the mix.
