Dan Lanning, Tosh Lupoi go 5-star Duck hunting during Oregon's bye week

Oregon is in hot pursuit of a five-star prospect... or two

The Oregon Ducks are flirting with a top-10 recruiting class nationally and have already secured commitments from 22 recruits, 17 of which are bluechip prospects.

But Oregon is still in hot pursuit of its first five-star pledge in the class.

And Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi made sure their presence was felt on the recruiting trail during the bye... errr... "work week," as Lanning likes to call it.

Lupoi was spotted at Salpointe Catholic's game, adding fuel to the rumors that Oregon is hard at work trying to flip Arizona five-star pledge Elijah Rushing, the nation's No. 8 overall prospect and No. 1 edge-rusher.

Sources indicate the buzz about an all-new battle for Rushing is real.

The Ducks are going to try like crazy to flip him, and Lupoi's appearance was (quite obviously) evidence of that.

Not to be outdone, Lanning was spotted in California getting an up-close-and-personal look at Mater Dei five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland.

The nation's No. 6 overall prospect and No. 2 defensive lineman is down to Georgia, Miami and Oregon and is set to announce his commitment October 14.

Georgia has emerged as the favorite in that battle late, but clearly no one at Oregon is ready to officially call it "game over."

Of course, given that Mater Dei is the nation's No. 1 program and is loaded with double-digit elite football prospects it doesn't hurt for Lanning to be in attendance regardless of how things shake out with Breland.

Keep in mind, Oregon is the overwhelming favorite to land the nation's No. 1 uncommitted running back and are firmly in the mix for the nation's No. 1 junior college prospect and No. 1 cornerback Sione Laulea, who will announce his decision Sunday.

In other words, Oregon could be in for a big-time finish to the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Stay tuned!
