Seneca and Park Hills Central will battle for Missouri Class 3 football championship

The Seneca Indians and Park Hills Central Rebels will face off at 11 a.m. CT on Friday in the Missouri Class 3 football championship game at Memorial Stadium in Columbia.

Seneca is back in the championship game for the first time since finishing as the runner-up in 2013 and seeking its first state title since 1995 and third in school history (1987, 1995).

Park Hills Central is in the championship game for the first time in school history. The Rebels are 31-7 since the start of the 2021 season and have won 10 or more games in nine of the past 12 years.

Seneca (13-0)

The Indians are averaging 46.4 points per game and allowing 11.2. In their four playoff games, they averaged 48.5 points and allowed 11.5 per contest.

Coach Cody Hilburn's squad has racked up 6,103 yards of offense this season – 3,909 rushing yards and 2,194 passing yards – for an average of 469.5 yards per game. 

Senior quarterback Gavin Hoover has passed for 2,194 yards and 25 touchdowns (with three interceptions) and run for 981 yards and 14 TDs. His favorite target, senior wide receiver Ethan Altic, has 28 receptions for 980 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Senior running back Jackson Marrs has rushed for 1,571 yards, averaging 6.98 yards per carry, and 31 touchdowns. 

The Indians defense has been led by junior safety Kaden Clouse (85 tackles, one sack, one interception) and senior linebacker Morgan Vaughn (77 tackles, two sacks).

Park Hills Central (10-3)

The Rebels, who defeated last year's Class 2 champion Blair Oaks 48-43 in the semifinals to advance, are averaging 44.5 points per game and allowing 23.1. In four playoff games, they averaged 48.5 points and allowed 24.5.

Coach Kory Schweiss's squad has racked up 6,520 toal yards of offense – an average of 501.5 yards per game – with 3,816 passing and 2,704 rushing. 

Senior wide receiver-strong safety Jobe Bryant, who led Central's basketball team to a Class 4 runner-up finish last season, has made a difference all over the field. 

He has run for 1,249 yards and 17 touchdowns, passed for 1,315 yards and 13 TDs (with six INTs) and gained 944 receiving yards and 11 TDs on a team-high 67 receptions. He's accounted for 3,508 total yards and 42 touchdowns, including a return TD. On defense, he has 108 tackles, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. 

Senior quarterback Casen Murphy has passed for 2,456 yards and 33 touchdowns (with one interception) in nine games. Senior wide receiver Kannon Harlow has 65 catches for 1,280 yards and 15 touchdowns. 

Jaxon Jones, a junior linebacker, leads the defense with 159 tackles and three fumble recoveries. He also has two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
