Calvary Christian (Florida) dominates Clearwater in second half
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA- There might not be a team in the Tampa Bay Area that’s picked a better time to start peaking than the Calvary Christian Warriors.
After losing back-to-back games against Carrollwood Day and Newberry, it seemed like the Warriors may have lost some of their mojo from last season’s success.
Heading into Friday night’s tilt against in-city rival Clearwater, the Warriors were looking to make it four straight wins to reach 5-2. Reggie Crume’s bunch did so convincingly behind the right arm of Jacob Drackett.
Drackett tossed three touchdowns as the Air Force commitment led the Warriors to a 27-3 rout over the Tornadoes at The Rock.
The opening quarter made onlookers feel like they might be in for a defensive slugfest. It was so for Calvary Christian, which held Clearwater to without a touchdown for the first time this season.
It would be Drackett getting things rolling through the air as he found tight end Riley Smith on a 20-yard touchdown pass to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, it would end up becoming more of the same from the Warriors’ offense. Drackett would find Smith again for a touchdown pass, this time a 10-yard strike.
Up 14-0, Calvary Christian (5-2) would dig in defensively and stymie Clearwater’s offense. The Tornadoes were held to 73 total yards for the night and it would be second half woes as they were out-scored 20-3 in the last two quarters.
On Calvary Christian‘s side, the offense compiled 316 yards and Drackett ended the evening completing 16-of-21 passes for 166 yards. His final touchdown heave of the night would come on a 35-yarder to junior wide receiver Austin Ho, who finished with five receptions for 47 yards.
Warriors’ running back Sean Cuono had another solid outing on the ground, rushing for 70 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown.
