Colusa 33, Sweetwater 19: Live update recap — RedHawks win first CIF state title

Colusa used a balanced offensive attack to take down Sweetwater for their first CIF State championship

TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA Colusa completed their perfect 14-0 season on Saturday afternoon, beating Sweetwater 33-17 in the CIF State Division 6-A championship game.

The RedHawks scored touchdowns on all three of their first half possessions, facing off against a Sweetwater team that is content to keep the ball on the ground and chew up clock.

Colusa senior running back Aiden Selover led the attack with three rushing touchdowns while quarterback Bo Coronado tossed two touchdowns. The RedHawks missed their two extra point attempts in the first quarter but closed out the game by making each of their final three attempts.

Sweetwater entered having scored 38 points or more in four straight games but had limited success rushing the ball. The Red Devils had a 63-yard rushing touchdown on their first drive of the game but were otherwise limited from any big plays. They rushed for 240 yards as a team, significantly less than they 375 yards per game average that they had coming in.

Colusa was able to cap their 14-0 season by winning their ninth game by double digits. The RedHawks dominance picked up in the biggest games of the season. They beat Winters 42-13 for the Northern Section title before taking their two state playoff games by a combined score of 75-23.
