Fyffe 43, Reeltown 24: Live updates recap from Alabama 2A high school football championship game

The AHSAA Class 2A high school football state championship trophy will rest with Fyffe or Reeltown this evening.

The Class 2A title game between Fyffe and Reeltown is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. Central time Friday, Dec. 8, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

FINAL: FYFFE 43, REELTOWN 24

FOURTH QUARTER UPDATES

TOUCHDOWN FYFFE! Logan Anderson barrels in from 2 yards out to put the game away. He's set a 2A championship game record with 256 rushing yards. Fyffe up 43-24 with 1:10 left.

TOUCHDOWN REELTOWN! Excellent pass from Jake Hornsby to Tae Martin for a 12-yard TD on fourth down. Fyffe leads 36-24 with 4:46 left. Two-point try fails.

TURNOVER ON DOWNS! Fyffe stops Reeltown for a loss on fourth and 2 and takes over on its own 23 with 10:08 left. Red Devils leading 36-18.

Big fourth-down completion to Demetrius Brown for a Reeltown first down to start the fourth.

THIRD QUARTER UPDATES

Third quarter ends with Fyffe leading 36-18. Reeltown ball in Fyffe territory with a fourth and 11 for the opening play of the final quarter.

A punt! First time we've seen one of those this game, and it was a beauty. Fyffe pins Reeltown at its own 2, 4:49 left.

TOUCHDOWN REELTOWN! Traylen Roberts tiptoes in for an 11-yard TD run to get Reeltown back in the game, but the two-pointer is missed again. It's 36-18 Fyffe with 7:10 left.

TOUCHDOWN FYFFE! Ryder Gipson takes a sweep to the edge and drags a defender into the end zone to give Fyffe a 36-12 lead with 9:19 left after the two-point try is good.

ONSIDE KICK! Fyffe recovers and will start with the ball leading 28-12

HALFTIME STATS

Fyffe is leading the yardage battle 276-133 over Reeltown, but the Rebels won the time of possession battle.

All 276 yards for Fyffe have come on the ground.

SECOND QUARTER UPDATES

Fyffe takes a 28-12 lead into halftime. Logan Anderson has over 150 yards and Ryder Gipson has over 100 on the ground for the Red Devils.

TOUCHDOWN FYFFE! Logan Anderson scores again, this time from 7 yards out to make it 28-12 Fyffe with 25 seconds left. Ryder Gipson had a 36-yard run to set up the touchdown.

TURNOVER ON DOWNS! Jake Hornsby pass into the end zone on fourth and 10 falls incomplete and Fyffe gets the first defensive stop of the game. Fyffe ball at its own 29 with just over three minutes left, leading 21-12.

Reeltown calls timeout for big third and 7 coming up in Fyffe territory.

TOUCHDOWN FYFFE! Logan Anderson bulls his way in from 2 yards out to make it 21-12 Fyffe with 9:11 left.

FIRST QUARTER UPDATES

Back-and-forth quarter ends with Fyffe leading 14-12, driving again in Reeltown territory. Logan Anderson already has over 100 yards rushing.

TOUCHDOWN REELTOWN! Arthur Woods runs in from 8 yards out on a grinding drive for Reeltown that included some huge blocks by Devin Bragg. Two-point conversion again no good so it's Fyffe leading 14-12 with 2:47 left.

TOUCHDOWN FYFFE! Freshman Ryder Gipson takes it 65 yards to the house on a one-play drive, getting in two big stiff-arms on the way. It's 14-6 Fyffe, 8:39 left. 

TOUCHDOWN REELTOWN! Tae Martin takes the sweep, gets the edge and races to the end zone for a 47-yard TD run. Two-point conversion no good so Fyffe leads 7-6 with 9:01 left.

TOUCHDOWN FYFFE! Logan Anderson runs it in from 8 yards out after his 56-yard run on the first offensive play of the game set it up. 7-0 Fyffe with 10:32 left.

Kickoff! Fyffe's opening drive starts on its own 33.

PREGAME READING

Fyffe (13-1) is coming off a 32-14 semifinal win over rival Pisgah, giving Paul Benefield his 350th career coaching win.

With a win in the championship game, Benefield would become just the third coach in state history to win seven AHSAA state titles.

Reeltown (13-0) edged out previously undefeated B.B. Comer 31-28 to get here, winning with the Rebels' first field goal attempt of the year.

The two teams are on a combined 26-game winning streak.
