Washington (WIAA) high school 2A/1A basketball state playoffs: Live quarterfinal updates, brackets, scores, top performers (2/29/2024)

State tournament action resuming Thursday in Yakima Valley SunDome

Day 2 of the WIAA Class 2A and 1A boys and girls basketball championships resumed Thursday at 9 a.m. with quarterfinal games in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

WIAA BOYS BASKETBALL SCORES | WIAA GIRLS BASKETBALL SCORES

Winners move on to the state semifinals Friday - all with a chance to play for a WIAA championship Saturday.

Lynden boys and Ellensburg girls are two-time defending Class 2A champions. Lynden Christian boys have won the past two Class 1A titles, and Nooksack Valley girls are trying for a repeat as tournament favorite.

CLASS 2A GIRLS SUMMARIES (Bracket)

Final: No. 4 Prosser 57, No. 3 W.F. West 41

Up next: vs. No. 1 Ellensburg in Friday semifinals, 3:45 p.m.

In the end, the up-tempo Mustangs' pressure was too much for the 2A EvCo champions.

Deidra Phillips scored a team-high 15 points, and Prosser forced 26 Bearcats' turnovers in reaching the state semifinals for the second time in three seasons.

The Mustangs began the fourth quarter on a 12-1 run to put the game out of reach.

W.F. West's Julia Dalan led all scorers with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Up next: vs. No. 4 Prosser in Friday semifinals, 3:45 p.m.

Layne Rogel scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting to lead three Bulldogs in double figures as the two-time defending champions cruised tp their 74th straight victory.

Jamison Philip totaled 17 points, five rebounds and four assists, and freshman Bella Standish had 15 points for the Bulldogs, who will meet CWAC rival Prosser in Friday's semifinals at 3:45 p.m.

Ava Bright had 17 points for the Hornets.

Folks are finding out the 2A Greater Spokane League winners are legitimate state contenders.

The Bantams are in the WIAA semifinals for the first time since they won it all in 2012.

Forward Eloise Teasley led three players in double figures with 15 points. Clarkston drilled eight 3-pointers, including three by Kendall Wallace, who had 12 points.

Archbishop Murphy could not find the shooting range, making just four of 25 field-goal attempts in the first half - and missing all nine 3-pointers.

Up next: vs. No. 5 Clarkston in Friday semifinals, 5:30 p.m.

It took 21/2 quarters, but the Lions finally broke away from Rapids in Yakima.

Lynden's 7-2 run at the end of the third quarter gave the 2020 state champions a 36-26 lead.

Payton Mills led the Lions with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Finley Parcher had 14 points. Lynden won despite going 1-for-18 from the 3-point line.

CLASS 2A BOYS SUMMARIES (Bracket)

Final: No. 11 Bremerton 65, No. 4 Renton 60

Dynamic freshman Jalen Davis followed his 28-point state debut with 23 points as the upstart Knights advanced to the semifinals for the first time since in 50 years.

Trenton Bulmer added 13 points for Bremerton, which held the Redhawks to 34 points in the final three quarter after giving up 26 in the opening period.

Dennis Johnson led Renton with 23 points and Marques Ili-Menesee added 19 points and eight rebounds.

Up next: vs. No. 11 Bremerton for Friday semifinals, 7:15 p.m.

The two-time defending champs shook off a slow start to beat the Redhawks and advance to the semifinals for the seventh straight time.

Brant Heppner scored a game-high 25 points on 11-for-19 shooting and two-time tournament MVP Anthony Canales added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Rakin Showki led Sammamish with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Up next: vs. No. 2 Grandview for Friday semifinals, 9 p.m.

Vikings senior Cade Orness shrugged off an uncharacteristic first half to score a team-high 24 points, leading three players in double figures, and the the Olympic League champs overcame a 33-point performance by Seahawks junior Davis Fogle.

Orness totaled 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the second half after just seven points and a hide-your-eyes 3-for-7 from the free throw line before the break.

Harry Davies finished with 18 points and nine rebounds and Jordan Williams chipped in 15 for the Vikings.

Up next: vs. No. 3 North Kitsap for Friday semifinals, 9 p.m.

Mavryk Bentley's team-high 17 points led four Greyhounds in double figures as they battled past their CWAC rival in raucous SunDome.

Lino Armendariz added 15 points and seven rebounds and Cameron Draculan and Levi Dorsett chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Hounds.

CWAC MVP Kobe McClure scored a game-high 20 points

Final: No. 5 Seattle Academy 60, No. 11 Riverside 50 (OT)

Up next: vs. No. 1 Zillah for Friday semifinals, 3:45 p.m.

Hunter Ackerley tallied a team-high 17 points as Seattle Academy registered a wild fourth-quarter rally - and won the game in overtime.

Riverside held a 40-27 leads early in the fourth quarter before the Cardinals scored 22 of the next 25 points.

 Jake Graham led all scorers for Riverside with 19 points.

Final: No. 1 Zillah 56, No. 7 Seton Catholic 54

Up next: vs. No. 5 Seattle Academy for Friday semifinals, 3:45 p.m.

The unbeaten Leopards survived a scare when a Cougars' 3-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed off.

Zillah senior center racked up 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the tournament favorite to the victory and a spot in Friday's semifinals where it will face Seattle Academy at 3:45 p.m.

Izzy Sandoval added 11 points for the Leopards, while the Cougars were led by Kaiden Wilson's 20 points.

Up next: vs. No. 2 Lynden Christian for Friday semifinals, 5:30 p.m.

Lay witness - the Annie Wright firepower is for real.

The Gators shot 54.2 percent from the floor (26-for-48), including a blistering 57.7 percent in the first half in building a big lead - and cruising to the state semifinals.

Reggie Lester led Annie Wright with 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting. Martin Kaupanger added 15.

A recent state rivalry was rekindled on Thursday - one dominated by the two-time defending state champions.

Jeremiah Wright scored a game-high 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting, and Lynden Christian's 17-2 second-half run blew the game open.

Final: No. 5 Wapato 69, No. 6 Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls 65

Up next: vs. Nooksack Valley for Friday semifinals, 7:15 p.m.

The Wolves are tough enough when they're not shooting well.

When Wapato is on, fuhgeddaboudit.

The Wolves shot 50 percent from the field to advance to the semifinals for the second straight year.

Trin Wheeler scored a game-high 26 points one 11-of-15 shooting to lead four in double figures for Wapato. Deets Parrish had 14 while Jordan Espinoza and Kobe Johnson added 12 apiece.

Ayanna Tobeck topped Lakeside with 15 points while Rylee Darnold and Macy Cummings added 12 and 10, respectively.

Final: No. 1 Nooksack Valley 60, No. 10 Seattle Academy 22

Up next: vs. Wapato for Friday semifinals, 7:15 p.m.

The defending champions held the cardinals to 18,6 percent shoot and cruised into the semifinals for the second straight year.

Reigning tournament MVP Devin Coppinger scored a game-high 21 points and added five rebounds and five assists for the Pioneers, who won their 14th straight.

Tana Hoekema added 10 points and seven rebounds for Nooksack Valley.

Up next: vs. Deer Park for Friday semifinals, 9 p.m.

Grace Hintz scored 16 points led a balanced scoring attack for the Lyncs, took a 15-point lead into halftime and cruised in the semifinals for the eighth straight time.

The Knights, who shot just 31.6 percent from the field in the first half, were led by the game-high 22 points from Kaleo Anderson.

Up next: vs. Lynden Christian for Friday semifinals

The unbeaten Stags shot a blistering 52.2 from the field - including 47.6 (10 of 21) from 3-point land to roll past the Bulldogs.

Ashlan Bryant led four Deer Park players in double figures with 19 points. Emma Bryant added 17, Brooklyn Coe had 15 and Raigan Coolbaugh chipped in 10.

Brianna Talley and Ellie Bessonette had eight apiece for Cashmere.
