Zoom Diallo commits to Washington Huskies; top 2024 point guard staying close to home
TACOMA, Wash. - In the recruiting equivalent of swishing a last-second, game-winning 3-pointer, the Washington Huskies hauled in one of the best point guards in the country Saturday.
And he came right out of their own backyard.
Zoom Diallo, a five-star prospect who played his first three seasons at Curtis High School before transferring to play at nationally-ranked Prolific Prep in California as a senior, announced in his hometown that he was signing with the Huskies over Arizona, Gonzaga and USC.
The 6-foot-4 guard delivered the message at the downtown Rhodes Center in front of family, friends and former Curtis teammates.
When Diallo, a consensus top-25 recruit nationally in the 2024 class, announced his finalists last January, the Huskies were part of the the top six, along with Arizona, Florida State, Gonzaga, Kansas and USC.
A few months later, Kentucky and Texas were added after Florida State and Kansas were eliminated.
Last month, the list shrunk to the four remaining finalists for Diallo, SBLive WA's all-state player of the year for 2022-23 after leading Curtis to back-to-back Class 4A championships last March before transferring out of state.
The last NCAA Division I-bound point guard to come out of Curtis also played for the Huskies - Isaiah Thomas (2008-11), one of Diallo's childhood idols who was just recently inducted into the university's athletic hall of fame.
