We’ve picked out 10 sophomore quarterbacks in Virginia that have stood out this season.

We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in Virginia and there’s no shortage of underclassmen quarterbacks performing at a high level.

It’s no surprise that sophomores are showing out in the Old Dominion as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top sophomore signal callers we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Virginia. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing sophomore high school quarterback in Virginia.

Here are the nominations: 

Tyreek Lundy, Northumberland: Lundy has put up some stellar numbers for a sophomore quarterback as the Indians’ starter has completed 92-of-121 passes for 1,932 yards and 27 touchdowns to a mere two interceptions. 

Dominic Plush, John Champe: The Knights’ signal caller has played very well this fall. Plush has completed 96-of-152 passes for 1,358 yards and 13 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

Aaron Hull, Eastern View: Hull is third among sophomore quarterbacks when it comes to touchdown passes with 19. The Cyclones’ starter has completed 82-of-143 passes for 1,335 yards and 19 touchdowns to just four interceptions. 

Calum O’Shea, Battlefield: The Bobcats have arguably one of the top sophomores around at the quarterback position. O’Shea has completed 77-of-111 passes for 1,324 yards and 26 touchdowns and just three interceptions. 

Sam Phillips, Floyd County: Phillips has had a solid 2023 campaign for the Buffaloes, throwing for 809 yards and 10 touchdowns versus eight interceptions. 

Brian Walrath, West Springfield: Walrath has made it happen this fall for the Spartans, as the signal caller has completed 63-of-135 passes for 1,288 yards and 11 touchdowns. 

Tyrell Grant Jr., Norcom: The Greyhounds’ starting quarterback has shown the ability on the varsity level, throwing for 1,247 yards and 11 touchdowns this fall. 

Will Shields, Centreville: Shields is another quarterback in this sophomore class that’s broken the 1,000-yard plateau. The Wildcats’ signal caller has thrown for 1,145 yards and nine touchdowns. 

Nick Nassib, Inpendence: Nassib has looked good all throughout the 2023 campaign as the quarterback has completed 84-of-167 passes for 1,134 yards and five touchdowns. 

Ayden Slash, Heritage: The Pioneers’ starter has looked solid through eight games so far as Slash has completed 69-of-115 passes for 843 yards and seven touchdowns.
