DD Murray, Bellville (Texas) star, voted Southeast Texas high school football player of 2023 regional semifinals

Congratulations to Bellville's D.D. Murray, who ran away with the reader vote for Southeast Texas Football Player of the Regional Semifinals — his nearly 12,000 votes out-pacing his teammate Sam Hranick's more than 6,000.


Texas high school football Week 14 is officially in the books.

SBLive gathered the top high school football performers across the Houston area and all of Southeast Texas in the UIL regional semifinals.

We gathered the best of the best — offense, defense and special teams — and now it’s your turn to cast your vote for the winner.

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

Shea Adams, Port Neches-Groves

The senior quarterback had two touchdowns and his second was the game-winner to help the Indians knock off No. 1-ranked Montgomery Lake Creek on Friday.

Taji Atkins, Spring Westfield

The Mustangs standout running back ran for 196 yards — on 10 carries — and scored three times in a 78-48 win against Rockwall on Saturday.

Lloyd Avant, Humble Summer Creek

The Tulsa pledge ran for three touchdowns — 1, 2 and 6 yards — and surpassed the 5,000-yard rushing mark in his career in a 52-15 win over Houston Stratford on Saturday.

Kaleb Bailey, Galena Park North Shore

The junior tossed four touchdowns while completing 21 of 26 passes for 315 yards in a 45-9 win over Cy-Fair on Friday at NRG Stadium. He also added a 58-yard touchdown run.

TraeShawn Boyd, Huntsville

The running back finished with 100 total yards and his touchdown catch from Austin Taylor helped the Hornets pick up a 14-13 win over Richmond Randle in a rematch from an earlier loss this season.

Zion Brown, Humble Atascocita

The Eagles’ quarterback had a pair of touchdowns in a 34-14 win over Houston Lamar in a Class 6A Division I playoff game. He threw for 202 yards and a score and ran for 52 yards and another touchdown.

Johann Cardneas, Houston St. Thomas Catholic 

The No. 1 state-ranked Eagles got a seven-touchdown performance from the Vanderbilt commit in a 73-62 win over Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy on Friday. 

Darius Clark-James, Houston C.E. King

The senior quarterback passed for 292. Yards — completing 23 of 33 passes — and a touchdown in a 31-28 loss to Fort Bend Hightower in a Class 6A Division II regional semifinal game.

Miles Dent, Spring Westfield

The junior quarterback had five total touchdowns, three in the air and two on the ground in a 78-48 win against Rockwall in a Class A Division I playoff tilt.

William Hill, Humble Summer Creek

The Texas baseball pledge had two interceptions and the Bulldogs defense grabbed 5 in a 52-15 win over Houston Stratford on Saturday.

Sam Hranicky, Bellville

The senior running back posted his fourth straight 100-plus yard game with 118 on 12 carries, while adding two touchdowns in a 61-7 win over No. 2-ranked Silsbee.

D.J. Lagway, Willis

The Florida commit broke the Class 6A single-season touchdown records in a loss on Friday to DeSoto with a touchdown passing giving him 57 on the year.

D.D. Murray, Bellville

The Brahmas got 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns from the junior in a 61-7 win over No. 2-ranked Silsbee in a Class 4A Division II regional semifinal.

Kameron Reddic, Fort Bend Hightower

The senior defensive back had 10 tackles, a TFL, a sack and blocked a punt as well to help the Hurricanes beat C.E. King 31-28 on Friday.

Cameron Smith, Galena Park North Shore

The 6-foot-3 junior had 10 catches for 184 yards and scored twice in a 45-9 win over Cy-Fair on Friday.

Blake Thomas, Humble Summer Creek

The wide receiver-turned-quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns in a 52-15 win over Houston Stratford in Class 6A Division II regional semifinal on Saturday.
