DUNCANVILLE, TEXAS - Alex Green had a solid junior year, but what the Hutto High School (Texas) standout put together in the 2023 Texas high school football season was eye-popping.

The Hippos senior wrapped up his season in a loss to defending state champion Duncanville in a bi-district game held on Nov. 10 at Panther Stadium.

As of Nov. 14, Green is second in the nation in stats entered in MaxPrep’s stat leaderboard with 2,056 yards receiving. He sits 33 yards behind the national leader Isaiah Smith of Western Brown, Ohio.

Green is an uncommitted recruit but interest picked up throughout the season for the three-star recruit.

According to 247Sports, he has 24 offers, almost a fourth of which came since the football season started: Washington State, Tulane, New Mexico State, Toledo, Ball State and Northwestern.

On Nov. 14, he announced on Twitter/X that he would be headed to Evanston, Illinois this weekend to attend the Wildcats' game against Illinois in a Big Ten clash.

On Sept. 16, he attended a game at Tulsa against Oklahoma.

“It has been a blessing,” Green said of the offers. “The hard work is paying and I wouldn’t be able to do it without my teammates and my coaches.”

Green had 101 catches this year and 19 touchdowns this fall — a big jump from 2022 when he had 43 catches for 900 yards and 9 scores. Green tweeted the 2,056 yards is the eight-best season in the state history for receiving yards in a season.

Green was chosen as the District 12-6A Offensive Player of the Year.

Playing with Texas Tech commit Will Hammond has helped Green. Hammond capped off his career with 3,910 yards and 35 touchdowns this year.

In a 52-31 win against Temple, Hammond threw for 393 yards and 7 touchdowns and Green was his favorite target that game. Green had 16 catches for 298 yards and six touchdowns. The catches and yards were a school record for the Hippos.

“He’s been a great help,” Green said of Hammon. “Not only is he a good quarterback he is a good leader. We worked hard this some ran last summer working out and throwing the ball every day and getting our timing right.”

Green initially got interest from Ivy League schools and mid-majors but some Power 5 programs started to show interest.

Army, Navy, Tennessee-Martin, UTGRV, Arkansas State, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Air Force and Western Kentucky have also extended offers.

“I’m trying to weigh my options and what is the best fit, (the) offense, location and coaching staff,” Green said. “Then I will commit in a few months. I’m going on visits to see if I like the place and what is the best fit for me.”

The next football Signing Day is Feb. 7, 2024.

Green now turns his attention to juggling recruiting and track and field — which starts on Feb. 10.

He’s ran a career-best 10.80 in the 100-meter dash at the area meet last year. He only ran the 100 twice in 2022 and was primarily a long jumper/triple jumper in 2021. He said his goal is to hit 10.4 seconds in the 100 dash this year.

“If you aren’t fast, you won’t be able to do well in football,” Green said.
