Lake Dallas beats Frisco Emerson in dramatic Texas high school football comeback

Falcons erase 12-point deficit, score District 3-5A, Region I win

Lake Dallas came back 12 points in the final 2:31 minutes to win a Texas high school district football showdown in dramatic fashion on Friday night. 

The Falcons (7-1, 3-1) beat Frisco Emerson (7-2, 3-2) 36-35 with a touchdown with 18 seconds left on fourth a goal from the four-yard-line.

Quarterback Cade Bortnem hit Keonde Henry for a four-yard score.

The Lake Dallas recovered an onside kick, drove 42 yards in and scored in the go-ahead touchdown with 18 seconds left.

Jalen Brooks took an interception back 77 yards to the Emerson 22-yard line and the Mavericks scored three plays later on a Cade Bortem 11-yard pass to Sam McAfee to cut the deficit to 35-30 with 2:31 left, setting up the onside recovery.

With the win, Lake Dallas (3-1) is tied with Denton (3-1) for second in District 3-5A, Region I. Argyle (4-0) is alone in first.

The top four seeds advance to the postseason. Two weeks remain in district play.
