Midway (Texas) football coach on leave as district looks into 'personal situation'

Multiple outlets in Waco report Midway ISD is looking into is 'non-student-related' regarding coach Shane Anderson

Midway High School (Texas) football coach Shane Anderson has reportedly stepped away from his post as the school district looks into a "personal matter."

Multiple outlets in Waco reported Tuesday evening that a note was sent out by Midway School District Superintendent Dr. Chris Allen to the families of football players.

Allen said Anderson would be "away from the football program while the district looks into a non-student-related personal situation."

He continued: "While I understand that a notice like this may cause concerns or assumptions, please know that the District is taking action to support our students and staff in the best interest of all concerned."

The news was first reported by David Smoak of 365 Sports.

Anderson was hired as the program's head coach in 2021 a stint as an assistant coach at the school from 2008-14 — a stretch where the Panthers won a district title every year and reached the UIL Class 4A title in 2011.

He left to take over as head coach at Connally, where he stayed for six seasons.

Midway (1-4) is coming off of a 28-14 loss to Harker Heights and faces Tempest at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

This is a developing story.
