Jordan scored first two TDs, Katy never led by more than a score Houston-area high school football showdown between district foes

Katy (Texas) avoided an upset and won a barn-burning shootout against a district foe on Friday night.

The Tigers (5-1) beat Katy Jordan 42-35 at Legacy Stadium in Katy behind sophomore running back Tramayne Hill, a potent offense and timely late defensive stand.

Neither one of the cross-town foes had lost a 6A-3, District 19 game entering Friday.

Jordan faced 4th and 7 inside inside Katy territory in the game's final minutes after converting a massive fourth down earlier in the drive. The pass was overthrown and Katy regained possession to help seal the win.

Katy went up a score early in the fourth quarter when quarterback Gunner Nelson found sophomore wideout Cade McCall 29 yards over the top of the defense in the end zone.

Jordan built a 14-0 lead early, but Katy erased the deficit and never led by more than seven.

Hill had more than 170 of his 200-plus yards in the second half.
