Coppell (Texas) rides 5 straight TDs to blowout of Lewisville

Cowboys nab rare win against district foes against No. 24 high school football team in Texas

COPPELL, TEXAS - For the first time since 2013, Coppell posted a win against rival Lewisville, 49-28, on Friday night.

The Cowboys spotted the Farmers a 7-0 lead before reeling off five unanswered touchdowns - the latter coming on an 8-yard pick-six from Matthew Neitzel early in the second half - as Coppell led 35-7 before going on to prevail at Buddy Echols Field.

Coppell junior quarterback Edward Griffin also threw for two TDs and ran for another. In the first half, he completed 18-of-22 passes for 262 yards and one of his TDs.

Senior tailback Xavier Mosely reached the end zone three times for the Cowboys (5-0, 2-0 District 6A-6 Division I). He had a 1-yard TD in the second quarter that gave Coppell a 14-7 lead, caught a 13-yard TD pass from Griffin in the third and then darted up the middle 22 yards to make it 49-21 with 9:18 left.
