Austin Westlake vs. Lake Travis: Live updates from Texas high school football showdown

Nationally ranked Chaparrals take head to No. 22 Lake Travis for Week 5 Lone Star State showdown

Jack Kayser punched in a 40-yard touchdown run on fourth down and Austin Westlake held off Lake Travis 20-14 behind a sturdy defense in a Texas high school football rivalry on Friday night.

They are two of the top-ranked teams in Texas and entered the Austin-area district rivalry at Lake Travis' Cavalier Stadium undefeated.

Lake Travis presented Westlake's toughest challenge of the season thus far and matches up the last two unbeaten teams in Texas 6A Region IV-District 26. 

The Cavaliers debuted in the SBLive Texas Power 25 on Monday at No. 22 after Week 4 after earning their signature win in Week 2 against Power 25 ranked Cibolo Steele to highlight a 4-0 start.

Austin Westlake is the No. 4 team in the state of Texas. The Chaparrals opened the year on the bubble of the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings, and have risen to No. 23.

FINAL: WESTLAKE 20, LAKE TRAVIS 14

FOURTH QUARTER

-- Lake Travis led a more than six-minute drive in hopes to find the endzone once more, but the Chaparral defense held firm.

-- Westlake converted a 24-yard gain into Lake Travis territory on third and long inside four minute left. Chaparrals chewing clock effectively on this drive. 

-- Lake Travis is forced to give the ball back. Westlake takes over around its own 20 yard line with under seven minutes left. 

-- On third down, Lake Travis stuffed Westlake for a loss back inside its own 20 to force a fumble. It was Westlake's first three-and-out of the game. 

-- TOUCHDOWN, Lake Travis: Kadyn Leon 11-yard pass. Lake Travis pulls within a touchdown. Under 10 minutes to play. (Westlake 20, Lake Travis 14)

THIRD QUARTER

-- FIELD GOAL, Westlake: Spencer Barnett drills a 53-yard field goal to extend Westlake's lead. It's Barnett's second field goal in as many attempts. (Westlake 20, Lake Travis 7)

-- TOUCHDOWN, Westlake: On fourth down, Jack Kayser got loose for.a 40-yard touchdown run to put Westlake up two scores. (Westlake 17, Lake Travis 7)

HALF: WESTLAKE 10, LAKE TRAVIS 7

SECOND QUARTER

-- FIELD GOAL, Westlake: Spencer Barnett sends 29-yard field goal through the uprights to give the Chaparrals the lead back. (Westlake 10, Lake Travis 7)

-- TOUCHDOWN, Lake Travis: Nico Hamilton punched in a one-yard touchdown run with 9:26 left in the first half and Lake Travis evens this one up. (Lake Travis 7, Westlake 7)

FIRST QUARTER

-- Land with a double-digit scramble for a first down on the same play Westlake scored. Running back Jack Kayser helped pave the way as a blocker. 

-- Land's promising deep ball attempt found senior Heath McRee, but was broken up by senior defensive back Keiondre Lewis in one-on-one coverage.

-- Lake Travis nets a first down, then goes three-and-out on its opening drive. Westlake takes over with just under six minutes left in the opening quarter.

-- Nationally ranked Westlake opens the game with a productive, 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive. Land had 32 yards on three carries on the opening drive. 

-- TOUCHDOWN, Westlake: Westlake quarterback Paxton Land keeps the read option and darts 18 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown. (Westlake 7, Lake Travis 0)
