We have 10 athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s Lower State South Carolina Offensive Football Player of the Week from Sept. 28-29 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.


Lower State South Carolina Offensive Player of the Week

Here are this week's nominations:

Meliq McGowan, Goose Creek

McGowan ran for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns in Goose Creek’s 42-7 throttling of Berkeley to open region play.

Jaden Cummings, Summerville

The junior quarterback hit big plays all night, completing 16-of-20 passes for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns in the Green Wave’s 44-21 win over Stratford.

Owen Bayes, Bluffton

Bayes threw four touchdown passes in the Bobcats’ 28-24 come-from-behind win over Hilton Head Island. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior was 17-of-29 for 314 yards.

Juels Huntley, Florence Christian

Huntley ran for 292 yards and 4 touchdowns in Florence Christian’s 45-13 win over Hilton Head Prep.

Jyron Waiters, Wilson

Waiters ran for the winning two-point conversion in the Tigers’ 41-40 double-overtime win over North Myrtle Beach. He also had two rushing touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass.

Samari Williams, Blackville-Hilda

Williams ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw a 78-yard touchdown pass as the Hawks downed Hunter-Kinard-Tyler in a battle of undefeated teams.

Tyree James, Holly Hill Academy

The Raiders’ standout tailback ran for five more touchdowns as the three-time defending SCISA 8-man state champions rolled over Andrew Jackson Academy 60-28.

Tyler Mungin, Cross

Mungin was 13-of-18 for 166 yards while running 10 times for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Trojans’ 56-0 win over St. John’s.

J.J. Fludd, Porter-Gaud

Fludd had another huge game, this time with 369 yards and 6 touchdowns on just 16 carries in a 58-30 win over Trinity Collegiate. The junior tailback has 1,602 yards and 29 touchdowns for the season.

Gabe Cusack, Marion

Cusack threw for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Swamp Foxes’ 42-32 win over Andrews. In addition, he had 59 yards and a touchdown rushing.
