We’ve picked out eight sophomore football players in Rhode Island that have stood out this season.

We are well past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in Rhode Island and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. 

It’s no surprise that sophomores are showing out in the Ocean State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top sophomore football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Rhode Island. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing sophomore high school football player in Rhode Island.

Here are the nominations:

Ben Black, QB, North Smithsfield Mount St. Charles Academy: Black has thrown for a lot of yards this season for the Northmen. The quarterback has completed 101-of-192 passes for 1,291 yards and eight touchdowns. 

Ethan Corriveau, WR, North Smithsfield Mount St. Charles Academy: The wide receiver has hauled in 40 passes for 458 yards and scored three touchdowns. 

Yandel Pelaez, RB, Providence Country Day: The Providence Country Day running back rushed for 559 yards on 55 attempts and has scored three touchdowns this season. 

Ramel Richards, RB, Central: Richards has had a nice season for the Knights, rushing for 481 yards and scoring two touchdowns. 

Chris Ciarniello, LB, North Kingstown: The middle linebacker has tallied 86 tackles through seven games for the Skippers. 

Drake Dumont, LB, Scituate: Dumont has had a solid season at inside linebacker, tallying 49 tackles and two sacks for the Knights. 

Zachari Rocchio, DE, Ponaganest: The defensive end has racked up three sacks along with 12 tackles. 

Jake Caron, CB, Westerly: The sophomore cornerback has picked off four passes through seven games for the Bulldogs.
