Washington Huskies football parent: The words culture, family, loyalty 'mean spit in college football'

College football is a business

Anyone who follows football in the state of Washington knows the name, "Otton."

The Otton family has produced two superstar high schoolers at Tumwater - Cade and Ryan - and both have gone on to play for the Washington Huskies.

Cade Otton is now an NFL tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Ryan Otton, a bluechip recruit in the class of 2022, is a sophomore in Seattle.

Their grandfather, Sid Otton, is one of the most celebrated high school football coaches in state history.

So, their dad, Tim Otton, knows the Washington program and coach Kalen DeBoer well.

He took to social media to vent some frustration with the direction of the Washington football program, more specifically DeBoer's sudden departure to become the head coach at Alabama.

"Coach DeBoer is a good man," he wrote. "The care Coach showed for Ryan when he lost his mom was real and genuine and I'm thankful for that. That said, if I hear words like 'culture,' 'family' or 'loyalty' from any coach again I'll throw up in my mouth. They mean spit in college football."

It has been an incredibly tough week for Washington football fans.

After losing to the Michigan Wolverines in Monday's national championship game, several top players declared for the NFL draft and DeBoer has now departed for Alabama.

His move allows for current Washington players to enter the transfer portal, meaning another wave of disappointing news could be on the way.

Therefore, it is understandable for a parent to be upset about the transition, particularly one who goes out of his way to praise DeBoer as a "good man" while expressing frustration with the unfeeling machine that has become college football.
