Jonah Williams visiting Oregon; 5-star athlete previews return trip

Ball (Texas) five-star linebacker/safety Jonah Williams is making a return trip to Eugene this weekend

One of the most talented and versatile defenders in the class of 2025 is visiting the Oregon Ducks this weekend.

Ball (Texas) five-star linebacker/safety Jonah Williams is making the return trip to Eugene to watch Dan Lanning's program take on USC.

That's far from a surprise.

Williams said his September visit "gave me chills" and that he would return to Oregon this fall, "God willing."

The bar has been set high for this weekend, as the Texas product's last gameday visit was the best atmosphere he experienced on the recruiting trail so far.

"I'd put Oregon at number one," Williams said of the atmosphere. "The game preparation was just different from other schools. It was a great feeling. It made me want to put on some pads and start playing."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound defender is rated the nation's No. 16 overall prospect and No. 2 linebacker, but could also play safety/rover at the next level.

Regardless of where he lines up, Williams indicated he has a lot of faith in Lanning's defense.

"My thought on Coach Lanning’s defense is (that it's) insane," he said. "The defensive scheme he runs throws everyone off."

Williams intends to stick in the 2025 class and doesn't have any plans to reclassify, but his recruitment is complicated by another factor.

He is an elite baseball prospect whose older brother, Nick, was a second round pick in the 2012 MLB amateur draft.

Regardless, Oregon has made an early impression and can continue to build upon that relationship this weekend.
