CLASS 6A CHAMPIONSHIP | Bracket

No. 1 West Linn 42, No. 16 West Salem 7

Baird Gilroy had a successful playoff debut behind center for the defending state champion Lions (10-0), throwing for two touchdowns and running for a third as West Linn eased past the Titans (5-5).

Gilroy opened the scoring 63 seconds into the game with a 35-yard pass to Danny Wideman, capping a four-play drive. Xavier Harris’ interception set up Gilroy’s 5-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds left in the first quarter.

Cade Johnson ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns, and Gilroy hit Wideman on a 17-yard scoring pass with 3:33 left in the third quarter to trigger the running clock.

Gilroy finished 12 of 16 for 180 yards, with Wideman catching seven passes for 85 yards. Gus Donnerberg caught three passes for 62 yards and added two tackles for loss. Nick Sakys ran for the Lions’ final score and recovered a fumble.

The Lions will take on Jesuit in next week’s quarterfinals. The teams met in Week 3, with West Linn winning 43-14 at home.

No. 8 Jesuit 34, No. 9 Lake Oswego 28 | Story

Elias Johnson caught a touchdown pass and returned a kickoff 93 yards for another score, and the Metro League champion Crusaders (6-4) earned their sixth consecutive win to set up a rematch with West Linn next week in the quarterfinals.

Kadyn Butcher’s second field goal of the game from 35 yards gave Jesuit a 34-21 lead one minute into the fourth quarter. The Lakers (6-4) answered with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Max Brauner to Matt Layne, but the Crusaders responded with a long drive that chewed up more than five minutes before giving the ball back to Lake Oswego.

Matt Eilers intercepted a deep ball on the ensuing drive to seal the victory.

Both teams’ standout backs had big nights. Lonnie Burt ran for a game-high 186 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries for Jesuit, and Lakers sophomore LaMarcus Bell ran for 130 yards and two scores.

No. 5 Lakeridge 13, No. 12 Sheldon 10

Noah Tishendorf’s 3-yard touchdown run with less than nine minutes remaining gave the Pacers (8-2) their first lead, and Luke Womack sealed the victory with an interception in the closing seconds.

The Irish (6-4), who reached the state final last year, had three chances to tie or regain the lead following Tishendorf’s score. A second-down sack by Cole Holum led to a turnover on downs with less than two minutes remaining, but the Irish forced a punt to get the ball back. Womack’s interception with 1.2 seconds left ended their final chance.

Colby Parosa opened the scoring for Sheldon with a 5-yard keeper on fourth-and-2 late in the first half. Tishendorf’s 9-yard run late in the third quarter drew Lakeridge within 7-6 before Rocco Graziano kicked a 24-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter.

Lakeridge held Sheldon to 216 yards of total offense. Jake Molerio led the defense with eight tackles (two for loss), and Charlie McPhee added seven (two for loss) and a forced fumble in the red zone that the Irish recovered, setting up Graziano’s field goal.

No. 4 Central Catholic 56, No. 13 North Medford 0

Tyson Davis ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries, and Killian Sombe, Zhaiel Smith and Cru Newman also ran for scores as the Mt. Hood Conference champion Rams (10-0) rolled to a first-round win at Hillsboro Stadium.

Newman was 9 of 14 for 102 yards, throwing touchdowns to Tommy Pempel and Landon Kelsey, who has at least one touchdown catch in eight of 10 games this season.

The Rams forced five turnovers, including Cade Gehlen’s 22-yard interception return for a touchdown — one of four interceptions.

The Black Tornado finished the season 7-3.

No. 3 Sherwood 41, No. 14 Oregon City 8

Wilson Medina ran for two touchdowns, and the Bowmen (10-0) racked up 211 yards on the ground en route to the first-round home win over the Pioneers (5-5).

Sherwood allowed just 135 yards of total offense, including 17 in the first half, with 46 coming on the final two plays of the game. Evan Morris returned an interception for a touchdown to highlight the defensive effort.

Kasen Covert and Trevor Nibbe also ran for touchdowns for the Bowmen, who converted on 6 of 7 first downs in setting up a quarterfinal matchup with Tigard.

“Overall, a pretty solid game,” Sherwood coach Mark Gribble said. “A little sloppy in the penalty area on our behalf, but we will get that cleaned up.”

No. 11 Tigard 17, No. 6 South Salem 0

Tigard’s defense forced three turnovers in the red zone, and Gavyn Simmons threw two touchdown passes as the Tigers (5-5) broke a five-game losing streak by defeating South Central Football Conference champion South Salem (9-1).

The Saxons entered the game averaging 50.7 points per game but were stymied by the Tigers, who also blocked a 21-yard field goal try to preserve the shutout.

“The kids gave a great effort, especially defensively by keeping one of the best offensive teams in the state from scoring,” Tigard coach Ken Feist said. “I’m extremely proud of their effort and execution.”

Roman Martin’s 44-yard reception set up a 6-yard scoring pass early in the fourth quarter to Trevin Laird to put Tigard up 10-0. After forcing a three-and-out, Simmons hit Martin for a 73-yard touchdown that sealed the win.

Simmons finished 11 of 18 for 229 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Seven of those completions went to Martin for 205 yards.

“My message to the team all week was effort and execution and the fact that our Three Rivers League schedule makes us battle-tested for the playoffs,” Feist said. “Playing in the TRL is like playing a playoff game each week.”

No. 10 Nelson 48, No. 7 Wells 8

Seven players found the end zone for the Hawks (8-2), who earned their first playoff win in the program’s three-year history while denying the PIL champion Guardians (8-2) their first postseason victory since 2003.

Avirey Durdahl was 7 of 8 for 213 yards and three touchdowns, including scores of 54 yards to Tyler Creswick and a 74-yarder to Andre Miller with 9:06 left in the third quarter that triggered the running clock.

Eli Stevenson also caught a touchdown pass, and Eddy Keomany, Charley Englegau, Easton Ivelia and Corbin Crosslin ran for touchdowns.

Wells’ touchdown came on a 35-yard pass from Spencer Reid to Griffin Scott.

No. 2 Tualatin 49, No. 15 Roosevelt 3

Junior quarterback Nolan Keeney returned from a broken collarbone that sidelined him the past 5½ weeks and threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Timberwolves (9-1) rolled at home. The Roughriders finish the season 7-3.

Both of Keeney’s touchdown passes went to senior AJ Noland, who replaced Keeney at quarterback in Keeney's absence.

Tualatin led just 13-3 midway through the second quarter when Keeney scored on a quarterback keeper. Just before halftime, he connected with Noland for their second touchdown and a 28-3 halftime lead.

Carson Mullins ran for two third-quarter touchdowns for the Timberwolves.

Drew Nees threw three touchdown passes in the third quarter, including a go-ahead 32-yarder to Justin Craigwell and two to Derek Craigwell, as the Apollos (6-4) erased a 20-14 halftime deficit en route to the first-round home win.

After the Pioneers (4-6) got within 34-27 early in the fourth quarter, Owen Scholes’ 28-yard run restored Sunset’s two-touchdown lead. Blake Hurley thwarted Sandy’s next drive by returning an interception 96 yards for a clinching touchdown.

Nees finished 9 of 13 for 157 yards and ran for 64 yards and a score. Justin Craigwell had 10 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown, and Scholes ran 12 times for 58 yards.

No. 22 Clackamas 28, No. 27 Lincoln 7

Jaxson Decker ran for 204 yards and scored the game’s first touchdown as the Cavaliers (6-4) opened a 28-0 lead through three quarters en route to the first-round home win.

Dylan Brower was 12 of 17 for 124 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The Cavaliers racked up 447 yards of total offense and held the Cardinals (4-6) to 142.

TC Manumaleuna II threw two touchdown passes, and Jamahl Wilson and Jerrik Wangler each ran for a score as the Vikings (6-4) continued their bid to return to the Columbia Cup final by shutting out the Generals (5-5).

Manumaleuna’s touchdown passes were to Braxton Singleton and Jamar Soaladaob.

No. 18 South Medford vs. No. 31 Jefferson, under review

The Panthers built a 34-0 lead on the strength of two fumble returns for scores and touchdowns from Kameron Rague, Ryder Scheid and Bridger Foss, but a fight broke out with 7:02 left in the second quarter following an interception, halting the game.

The OSAA announced that the game is “under review,” according to Kris Henry of the Rogue Valley Times. A final ruling is not expected until Monday.

After the interception by Rague, a tussle occurred between the intended receiver, Montral Brazille, and South Medford players Wyatt Jennings and Austin Hofeling. During the ensuing tussle, Jennings had his helmet ripped off before at least one blow landed to his head as an official arrived to try to separate the players.

Most of the Jefferson sideline entered the field close to where the altercation took place, drawing several Panthers from the near sideline as well. Eventually, coaches were able to separate the teams, but after a lengthy discussion involving Jefferson coach Anthony Stoudamire and South Medford associate head coach Jason Bauer — head coach Bill Singler calls games from the coaches box — officials decided to suspend the game.

CLASS 5A | Bracket

No. 1 Wilsonville 42, No. 16 Crater 7

Tyler Konold’s short touchdown run drew the Cougars close, but Holden Booher broke up the two-point try with a diving effort.

The Warriors held Springfield to 158 yards of total offense.

Paul Hobson’s 1-yard sneak drew Baker within 21-13, but the Tigers scored again on Rothenberger’s 3-yard keeper on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Hobson found Izak Cleveland to make it 28-21, but again Junction City responded, driving 67 yards before Rothenberger scored on a 2-yard run with 4:37 to play.

JJ Kuunifaa caught a touchdown pass from Paul Skoro just before halftime to close the gap to 12-7. The Falcons made three first-half interceptions but couldn’t convert any into points.
