Oregon high school football playoff brackets: OSAA first-round matchups, game times
The 2023 Oregon high school football playoffs have arrived, but not without controversy.
The OSAA froze their computer rankings for Class 6A and 5A late Friday night and released their brackets shortly after. The OSAA uses a combination of a Colley rating and an RPI rating to produce its computer rankings and seed teams for the playoffs.

West Linn (9-0) received the No. 1 ranking in the Class 6A bracket and will face No. 16 West Salem in the first round on Friday, November 3. Tualatin (8-1) received the No. 2 seed, with Sherwood (9-0) at No. 3 and Central Catholic (9-0) at No. 4.
Central Catholic and West Linn are considered the best two teams in the state - by a wide margin. They have been atop the 6A media poll most of the season, splitting the first-place votes. But Central Catholic tumbled to No. 4 in the OSAA computer rankings largely because of how poorly their league performed. The only teams in the Mt. Hood Conference to finish with winning records were Nelson (7-2) and Clackamas (5-4). The other five teams were below .500 with Gresham (1-8) and David Douglas (1-8) ranked as two of the worst teams in the state.
West Linn finished No. 1 in the OSAA computer rankings largely because of its strength of schedule. The only team in the Three Rivers League that did not finish with a winning record was Tigard, and they went 4-5.
The OSAA has a detailed description of its rankings formula, and opponents' winning percentage plays a large role. This clearly hurt Central Catholic.
In the Class 5A bracket, Wilsonville (8-1) received the No. 1 seed and Silverton (9-0) received the No. 2 seed.
