Vote: Who should be SBLive Oklahoma's high school athlete of the week?

Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oklahoma athlete of the week for Aug. 28-Sept. 3

Week 1 of high school football is in the books, meaning everyone across the state in high school football has played at least one game. 

It is now time to highlight some of those top performers from the past week, as well as those in the other fall sports.

Deuce Chalk, Owasso football

In a 34-28 win against Jenks, the senior wide receiver had five catches for 212 yards and hauled in three touchdowns.

David McComb, Edmond Memorial football

In a narrow 34-31 win against Edmond Deer Creek, McComb was spectacular as he passed for 462 yards and tossed four touchdown passes. In the win, the junior also broke Edmond Memorial’s career record for passing yards.

Shaker Reisig, Tulsa Union football

The Redhawks' junior quarterback showed what he is made of on Friday night, as he went 27-of-35 and threw for 313 yards in a 27-17 win over Broken Arrow. He accounted for all four Redhawk touchdowns.

Cord Nolan, Bixby football

The Spartans put up 68 points in the first half, including 49 in the second quarter alone. Nolan was responsible for three of the Spartan touchdowns, scoring two on offense and another on defense.

Kenison Rogers, Yukon football

Rogers had a big night for the Millers, as he had 11 catches for 116 yards and scored a touchdown.

Marco Smith Jr., Sapulpa football

In a high-scoring 41-38 win against Tahlequah, it was Smith who starred for the Chieftains. He had 247 rushing yards, scored four touchdowns and converted on a crucial two-point conversion.

Andy Bass, Heritage Hall football

The senior quarterback did it through the air and on the ground, as he passed for 346 yards and ran for 90 more in a 47-24 win over Oklahoma City Millwood. He accounted for six total touchdowns.

Owen Darby, Cascia Hall football

Cascia Hall and Rejoice Christian were ranked in the top 10 of Classes 2A and 3A heading into their matchup Friday night. It was Cascia Hall coming away with the win after Darby ran for 161 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Jaxson Grimes, Metro Christian football

The Patriots have started the season with a 35-13 win thanks in large part to the play of Grimes, who passed for 398 yards and rushed for 51 more.

Parker Lockhart, Fort Gibson football

Lockhart was the backup on Friday night, but he was the quarterback who delivered in a 22-19 win against Berryhill. Lockhart was 14-of-20 for 142 yards passing, and also converted on a key fourth-down play late in the game.

Moses Fullingim, Lincoln Christian football

The Bulldog offense struggled in their season opener against Holland Hall, but they got the kinks worked out on Friday in a 56-32 win over Jones. Fullingim accounted for 173 yards rushing on 15 carries and 99 yards receiving on four catches. He had three touchdowns.

Red Martel, Beggs football

On only 13 carries, Martel scored four touchdowns and ran for 266 yards.

Jax Bernard, Fairview football

In a 42-0 win over Chisholm, Bernard passed for more than 250 yards and ran for 104 yards. He accounted for five total touchdowns.

Pierson Smith, Community Christian School volleyball

Community Christian School won their home tournament last week, having not dropped a set. Smith is one of the top setters in the state and she is only a sophomore.

Parker Gladhill, Norman North volleyball

The Lady Wolves have gotten off to a great start and in a straight set victory over Yukon, Gladhill led the team.

Macy Jones Cornett, Piedmont volleyball

The Lady Wildcats have gotten off to another great start largely thanks to the great play of Cornett, who is showing her versatility on the floor.

Allyssa Parker, Pocola fast pitch softball

In a 5-1 win over Poteau, Parker hit a home run and as a pitcher had six strikeouts.

Kadynce Delt, Howe fast pitch softball

Delt threw a four inning no-hitter and struck out eight, which at the time moved her team to 3-0 in pool play of the Tushka Classic.

Tucker Wooten, Wister fall baseball

Wister’s baseball team moved to 10-2 last week after Wooten blasted two home runs and had seven RBIs in a win over Cameron.

Brayden Cowan, Watonga boys cross country

At the Kingfisher Cross Country Invitational, Cowan won with a time of 16:31.

Scout Snodgrass, Kingfisher girls cross country

At the Kingfisher Cross Country Invitational, Snodgrass won with a time of 18:28.
