Vote: Who had the best performance in Ohio high school soccer state championships
This past week, the Ohio High School Athletic Association held the soccer state semifinals and finals, with the championship game in Columbus at Historic Crew Stadium.
Here are the candidates for the top performances. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday, November 19 at 11:59 p.m.
Lucas Alonso Garcia, Andrews Osborne Academy boys soccer
In the 30th minute of the Division II semifinal against Ottoville, the junior scored the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 win.
Alyssa Easter, Cincinnati Country Day girls soccer
Had a pair of clean sheets, including making two saves in a 1-0 win over Ottawa-Glandrof in the Division III state championship game. Ottawa-Glandorf had 12 shots in the second half, including the pair on goal saved by Easter.
Landon Haas, Tippecanoe boys soccer
Scored the game-winner in the second overtime for a 2-1 win over Bishop Watterson in the Division II semifinals. And then in the Division II state championship game, he scored what would be the game-winner in a 2-0 win over Revere.
Zoe Jackson, Summit Country Day girls soccer
In the Division II state championship game, the junior scored the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 win over Rocky River.
Michael Jergens, Tippecanoe boys soccer
Kept a clean sheet by saving all five shots on goal in a 2-0 win over Revere in the Division II state championship game.
Maddie Mescher, Summit Country Day girls soccer
Didn’t allow a goal in either the Division II semifinals or championship game and made three saves to lead SCD to a 1-0 win over Rocky River in the title game.
Ryan Miller, Worthington Christian boys soccer
Had a shutout in the state semifinals in a win over Waynesville and then made 11 saves in a 2-1 loss in the state championship game against Andrews Osborne Academy, as AOA finished the game with 31 shots and put 13 of them on goal.
Colin Monroe, St. Ignatius boys soccer
Made a pair of saves on PKs in a shootout, including saving the final PK, to help the Wildcats defeat Archbishop Moeller in the Division I state championship game. He also made a save on a PK in the state semifinals to keep the score 2-0 with 11 minutes left in the first half of a 3-0 win over Medina.
Hannah Pachan, Walsh Jesuit girls soccer
In the Division I state semifinals, Pachen scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Strongsville, including the game-winner on a 25-yard free kick in the 72nd minute. She backed that up with a pair of goals in a 2-1 win over Olentangy Liberty in the state championship game.
David Salukombo, St. Ignatius boys soccer
In a 3-0 win over Medina in the Division I semifinals, Salukombo scored a pair of goals. He then scored the final PK in a win over Archbishop Moeller in the Division I championship game as St. Ignatius won in PKs.
Megan Zimmerman, Cincinnati Country Day girls soccer
Headed in a corner kick from 20 yards out, which stood as the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Ottawa-Glandorf in the Division III state championship game.
