We have 10 players nominated this week for SBLive’s North Carolina High School Softball Player of the Week from Feb. 26-March 2, our first Softball Player of the Week poll of the 2024 season. We ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, March 9 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominees:

Makenzie Goins, Richlands

This is what you call dominating. Goins fired a three-hitter with 17 strikeouts as the Wildcats blanked East Duplin 9-0. She also had a pair of RBIs.

Kenzie Ivey, Randleman

Ivey had a homer, triple, single and three RBIs in the Tigers’ 12-8 win over Richmond County.

Madilyn Huneycutt, Mount Pleasant

Huneycutt hurled a two-hitter with eight strikeouts over five innings and was 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs in the Tigers’ 13-0 rout of A.L. Brown.

Addison Martin, Willow Spring

Martin was 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs as the Storm swamped Middle Creek 13-4. She was also 2-for-3 in a 10-0 win over Panther Creek and 2-for-4 in a 17-0 rout of Green Level.

Abigail Gonzalez, Lejeune

Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs in a 12-8 win over Southwest Onslow to start her week. Then she was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs in a 16-1 win over North Johnston. Finally, she was 3-for-3 with a triple and 3 RBIs in a 19-4 rout of North Johnston.

Corri Houston, Farmville Central

Houston was 2-for-2 with an RBI and pitched three hitless innings with six strikeouts in a 5-2 win over Southside. She also pitched three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in a 15-0 win over Rocky Mount.

Kaleigh Blackwell, West Columbus

Blackwell was 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs in a 22-4 rout of New Hanover. She was also 5-for-6 with a double and 5 RBIs in a 20-14 win over Red Springs and 2-for-5 with 4 RBIs in a 21-12 loss to Red Springs.

Emily Clay, Northern Nash

Clay was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs in a 13-8 win over Spring Creek. Then she went 3-for-3 with two doubles and 4 RBIs in an 18-1 rout of Beddingfield.

Delani Straughn, Eastern Alamance

Straughn pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over West Johnston.

Alona Hanna, Lumberton

Hanna had three hits and five RBIs in an 18-2 rout of Whiteville.
