Mater Dei at St. John Bosco football game sells out in three minutes

The annual regular-season game between two of the nation's top juggernauts sells 60 percent of 6,200 seats shortly after tickets go on sale

As high school football games go in Southern California, Mater Dei versus St. John Bosco is sorta in demand like Beyonce, Taylor Swift or Pink on the world music platform.

Sixty percent of Friday's Trinity League showdown between the national juggernauts went on sale Monday morning and sold out in three minutes, according to St. John Bosco officials.

Friday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. John Bosco. The game will be televised locally on Bally Sports.

The game pits the national No. 1 ranked Mater Dei (7-0) against the No. 7 Braves (6-1). Since 2016, the teams have met annually with league, section, state and national implications. Friday's game pits two teams with upwards of 60 Division 1 recruits.

Since 2004, the teams have met 24 times, with Mater Dei winning 14. The Monarchs had won three straight, including 17-7 in the regular season last season, before Bosco got ultimate payback with a 24-22 in the 2022 Southern Section Division 1 championship.

Bosco had won six straight in the series from 2011 to 2015, when Mater Dei won eight of the next 12. Last season's Braves' victory in the Southern Section broke a 29-game win streak for the Monarchs and Brown as the team's starting quarterback.
