“We knew we were going to have to play well coming into this one," Tupelo coach Justin Reed said. "We did a good job of getting up early and adding on to the lead as the game went on. Lake did a good job of filling up the zone and South did a good job of setting the tone for us.”

The Golden Wave extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the second, when McCoy hit an RBI single on a pop up that landed behind the Germantown second baseman.

Miller added an RBI double down the third base line in the fifth to give Tupelo a 4-0 lead. McCoy led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run.

“South hasn’t been seeing the ball well like he did early in the year," Reed said. "But tonight, he did a great job of getting on base and had the big swing at the end. Against a big arm, we had to eliminate the fast ball up to make sure to keep it down to get a good swing, so we had a good approach as the game went on and did a good job lengthy at-bats. A region win on the road is big and to go back home to try to win on Friday and clinch the series.”

Lake Reed (3-0), who is headed off to North Mississippi Community College next year, tossed a complete game with one hit and one walk. He struck out five Mavericks.

“I felt good from the start," Lake Reed said. "Coming in, I knew they were a good team, so I just had to throw strikes and let my teammates play defense behind me, and they did their job. Breaking ball felt good, so that allowed me to throw my fast ball more confidently. We did a good job of picking each other up and getting this win on the road.”

McCoy, a Southern Miss commit, had three hits and two RBI’s to lead the Golden Wave against Germantown's ace, Tulane signee Drew Harrison.

“We knew we were going to see a good arm," McCoy said. "We did a good job of jumping on them early and keeping the foot on the pedal and not letting up. We couldn’t have asked for a better performance out of Lake. He shut them down. We made a statement tonight.”

Harrison (3-2) took the loss on the mound for Germantown. Tiger Esco had the only Maverick hit, a second-inning single.

“We got out-played and out-coached tonight and we got a lot of things to fix,” said Germantown coach Chris Peden. “I didn’t have our guys ready to play and they came to ready to play and deserved to win.”
