Eagan upsets Park Center in MSHSL boys basketball Class 4A quarterfinals

The Wildcats came back in the second half to defeat the Pirates in the Minnesota high school boys basketball state tournament

The Eagan Wildcats upset the No. 2-seed Park Center Pirates 73-70 in the MSHSL boys basketball Class 4A quarterfinals on Wednesday at Target Center.

Park Center led 36-26 at halftime after the Pirates pulled away over the final ten minutes of the half thanks to 10 points from senior guard Cash Chavis.

Eagan started the second half by outscoring the Pirates 13-6 in the opening three minutes. Then, Park Center center and All-Metro honorable mention Chiang Ring left the game and did not return.

Over the next twelve minutes, Eagan outscored the Pirates 34-28. The Pirates struggled to score, shooting 9-of-22 over the stretch. Chavis was the only offense for the Pirates. He scored 22 points during that stretch, and he finished with 36 in the game.

Eagan's offense shot 56 percent in the second half. The Wildcats took over the lead with five minutes remaining, and they held off the Pirates as Chavis continued to push.

Alex Schroepfer and Owen Bockenstedt each scored 15 points in the half. They finished with 19 and 15 points, respectively. Schroepfer was a force getting to the free-throw line. He scored 12 points from the stripe on 15 attempts.

Eagan will play the winner of Coon Rapids vs. No. 3-seed Minnetonka on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Williams Arena.
