MINNEAPOLIS — The No. 3-seed Alexandria Cardinals defeated the Minneapolis South Tigers 72-70 in the MSHSL Class 3A boys basketball quarterfinals at Williams Arena.

Minneapolis South on an 11-2 run. Alexandria leads 71-70 with 35 seconds, but Minneapolis South has the ball after a timeout.

Poet Davis hits two free throws for the Tigers to cut the Alexandria lead to 71-70 with one minute remaining.

Minneapolis South has cut the lead to five with three minutes remaining.

Four minutes remain and Alexandria is up to a 10-point lead.

Seven minutes remain in the half and Alexandria leads 61-55. Alexandria's Grayson Grove and Chase Thompson have 24 and 16 points, respectively. 

Five minutes into the second half and Alexandria's offense has 11 points so far. The Cardinals lead 51-47.

Both teams shooting 50 percent or over. Alexandria holds a lead in rebounds and points in the paint, and the Tigers are 6-of-11 on 3-point shots.
