Minnesota high school football full of upsets in week two

No. 1 Maple Grove and No. 2 Rosemount fall, and No. 10 Elk River continues to slide

Week one of Minnesota high school football had few top 25 matchups, but week two was full of top games, and few of the top teams survived.

Minnesota high school football top 25 scoreboard (9/8/2023)


The Class 6A defending champion, No. 1 Maple Grove, fell to unranked Champlin Park 25-24. Preston Thielke threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to give Champlin Park the win.

No. 2 Rosemount fell to rising No. 15 Lakeville North. The Cougars took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and held on.

So No. 1 and No. 2 fell, and No. 6 Prior Lake was the next to fall. The No. 12 Shakopee Sabers won 28-7. Tellise Clark ran for three touchdowns.

No. 8 Woodbury could not escape No. 18 Stillwater, 28-25, and No. 11 East Ridge fell to No. 22 Forest Lake.

In Class 5A, defending champion No. 10 Elk River is now 0-2 after the Elks fell to No. 21 Brainerd. The Warriors scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull the upset.

The top-ranked Class 4A team, No. 25 Simley, fell 17-0 to Totino-Grace.
