Top five teams remain intact from previous list

Note: The power ratings and records are from Geaux Preps on Jan. 18.

1. Walker, 25-0 (previous rank: 1) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 1

The Lady Wildcats defeated St. Amant, 56-39, at the MLK Main Event Shootout.

LGRBasketball wrote following the game that 2024 player Trinity Thomas "is a glue guy for her team" and one of the state's top unsigned forwards.

Thomas (5-foot-10, Sr.) scored 20 points in 22 minutes vs St. Amant and shot 56% from the field.

Also, 13 players have gotten into the scoring column for Walker. Junior guard La'Shantae Clay is a mainstay on the court, averaging a team-high 16.7 minutes per game. Clay is dishing out a team-high 5.6 assists per game.

2. Lafayette Christian, 20-1 (previous rank: 2) - LHSAA Power Rating Division II select No. 1

The Lady Knights downed LaGrange and Oak Hill. Lafayette Christian came from behind to nip defending Division V select state champion Oak Hill in overtime, 72-68. LSU signee Jada Richard poured in 44 points.

The Lady Knights tangle with Northwood-Shreveport (15-9) and senior star Hannah Mouton on Saturday at Brad Boyd's Cajundome Classic in Lafayette. Mouton played at Southside in the Lafayette metro area before transferring to northwest Louisiana.

3. Huntington, 16-2 (previous rank: 3) LHSAA Power Rating Division I select No. 1

The Lady Raiders mauled Gibsland-Coleman, 89-31, with a 33-6 advantage in the third quarter. Kyndal Graham scored 27 points, Carley Hamilton added 23, ZaNyah Lafear had 11 and Jamar'li Bell scored 10 points.

5-foot-8 junior Jaila Marshall is third on the team in scoring with 10.2 ppg. Hamilton is averaging 17.2 ppg and Graham 16.8 ppg. Hamilton also leads the team in rebounding (4.4) and steals (2.3).

Mark your calendar for Feb. 2. That's when Huntington will travel to Northwood-Shreveport (15-9) in a District 1-4A contest. Hannah Mouton and Northwood will try to get some payback after Huntington routed the Lady Falcons, 96-65, at the Southwood Tournament in December.

4. Southern Lab, 14-5 (previous rank: 4) - LHSAA Power Rating Division IV select No. 1

The Kittens claimed another pair of impressive victories, beating Carencro and Wossman in Lake Charles. The Kittens have now won eight straight games and are the only in-state program to defeat Lafayette Christian.

Center Gabriel Hill, who made her presence felt in the win over Lafayette Christian, received a scholarship offer from LSU-Eunice. In the 47-45 win over Wossman at the MLK Classic, Asia Patin produced 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and the 5-foot-7 point guard made the game-winning shot.

The Kittens have an interesting stretch of games ahead highlighted by contests vs. Ponchatoula, Liberty Magnet, Brusly, Fairview, Vandebilt Catholic and John Curtis Christian.

5. Parkway, 13-4 (previous rank: 5) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 7

The Lady Panthers ran their league record to 6-0 by defeating Benton, 56-27, on the road in a District 1-5A clash.

Parkway challenged Natchitoches Central (15-8, 4-2) on the road on Jan. 19. The two clubs met earlier in a previous district game with Parkway prevailing, 69-35.

6. John Curtis, 15-4 (previous rank: 7) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I select No. 2

The Lady Patriots have recent wins over George Washington Carver, Archbishop Chapelle, St. Mary's Academy. and Edna Karr. They made a strong statement by blasting Archbishop Chapelle, 62-30, on the road in a District 9-5A opener. The Chipmunks are 16-6 overall, 1-1 in 9-5A.

According to Mike Strom of nola.com, Chikae Desdunes delivered 28 first-half points as John Curtis rolled to a 53-15 lead over Chapelle at the half. Irmani Daniel and Janiyah Williams each added eight points. Jayla Albert and Bailey Timmons contributed seven points apiece.

7. Wossman, 16-4 (previous rank: 6) - LHSAA Power Rating Division II non-select No. 1

The Lady Wildcats lost by two points to Southern Lab and defeated Bossier and Richwood, their neighborhood rival.

The Jan. 16 District 1-3A opener at Sterlington (17-4) was postponed due to the arctic blast. On Feb. 2, Wossman travels to district foe Bastrop, which is currently 24-0.

8. Southside, 20-3 (previous rank: 8) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 3

The Lady Sharks defeated Sam Houston and Opelousas.

In the 69-39 District 3-5A rout of Sam Houston, freshman Kay'Len Alexander had 22 points. Eymani Key added 17, Alleyah Kennedy scored 12 and Urijah Carmouche and AnnaLeigh Horton chipped in eight points apiece.

9. Bastrop, 24-0 (previous rank: 9) - LHSAA Power Rating Division II non-select No. 3

The Lady Rams beat Union Parish, 62-25. Jameiah Peoples led four double-digit scorers with 21 points. Alana Myles scored 12, with Mariah Heard and Antanasia Armstrong contributing 11 points apiece.

10. Denham Springs, 20-3 (previous rank: 10) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 2

The Lady Jackets beat Fontainebleau in overtime, 43-37.

Denham Springs will seek to avenge a previous loss to Walker when the two District 5-5A powers meet on Feb. 9 in Denham Springs. The previous matchup, won by Walker by a score of 62-36, was a non-district game at the Livingston Parish Tournament.

11. Hicks, 26-1 (previous rank: 11) - LHSAA Power Rating Division V non-select No. 2

The Lady Pirates downed Elizabeth, 64-37, to improve to 2-0 in District 4-B. A league showdown at Anacoco that was scheduled for Jan. 16 was postponed (weather).

12. Mandeville, 19-5 (previous rank: 12) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 5

The Lady Skippers beat St. Scholastica, 65-39. Alanna Benoit is scoring 19.3 points per game, followed by Saleigh Berry (12.6) and Hannah Benoit (12.5). Hannah Benoit leads the team in rebounds (9 rpg) and assists (3.8 apg).

13. Rosepine, 19-5 (previous rank: 13) - LHSAA Power Rating Division III non-select No. 1

The Lady Eagles beat Pickering, 78-35, in a District 4-2A road contest. Rosepine's Jan. 16 league game vs. Holy Savior Menard (17-6) was postponed.

A Jan. 23 league clash at Oakdale (19-5), the defending champion in Division IV non-select, looms ahead for the reigning Division III non-select state champion Lady Eagles.

Kelly Norris is a sharpshoopter from the wing. Nevaeh Rivera is another senior standout, along with Addison Fruge.

14. Fairview, 23-6 (previous rank: 14) - LHSAA Power Rating Division V non-select No. 1

The Lady Panthers were idle. Marquee matchups vs. Southern Lab and Natchitoches Central are ahead on Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, respectively. Both games are at home.

Ella Reeves and Reesie Jinks are returning Class C first-team all-state players.

15. Anacoco, 25-3 (previous rank: 16) - LHSAA Power Rating Division V non-select No. 3

The Lady Indians beat Pitkin, 60-31, on Jan. 12. In a previous win over Elizabeth, Abbie Dowden showed her versatility by blocking shots inside and shooting outside with the 3-ball.

16. Haughton, 22-3 (previous rank: 17) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 4

The Lady Bucs beat Captain Shreve, 51-28, in a District 1-5A matchup. A Jan. 16 league game at Parkway was postponed. Sophomore Skylar Branch posted 19 points in a previous district win over Southwood.

17. Carencro, 17-6 (previous rank: 15) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I select No. 5

The Lady Bears blew out Comeaux and lost by seven points (48-41) to Southern Lab.

5-foot-8 senior point guard Shelcie LeBlanc will lead the team into important upcoming District 3-5A games vs. Barbe and Southside.

18. Zachary, 18-4 (previous rank: 18) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 6

The Lady Broncos have won six straight games, including victories vs. Ponchatoula, St. Thomas More, Glenmora, White Castle and Family Christiian.

Ava Raymond and Tiarra McPipe are potent with forcing turnovers and capitalizing on ensuing fast breaks.

19. J.S. Clark, 16-3 (previous rank: 19) - LHSAA Power Rating Division V select No. 2

The Lady Bulldogs got a quality win over a 16-4 Westlake team by a score of 39-30. A huge District 6-B game vs. Midland (18-8) originally scheduled for Jan. 16 was postponed.

Taylor Barnaba and Jailee Edwards were catalysts in a district win over Hathaway (58-54), which won the Division V non-select state title last year.

20. Natchitoches Central, 15-8 (previous rank: 20) - LHSAA Power Rating Division I non-select No. 10

The Lady Chiefs collected a 64-32 win over Airline and have pivotal District 1-5A games vs. Parkway and Southwood coming up on Jan. 19 and Jan. 23, respectively.

LGRBasketball reported that Natchitoches Central senior Alyssa Chandler committed to LSU-Shreveport.

21. Albany, 16-5 (previous rank: 23) - LHSAA Power Rating Division II non-select No. 2

The Lady Hornets started District 7-3A play with wins over fellow contenders Amite and Pine. Albany has won three straight games since losing three of five (to Natchitoches Central, Neville and Denham Springs).

22. Oakdale, 19-5 (previous rank: 24) - LHSAA Power Rating Division IV non-select No. 2

The Lady Warriors notched victories over Pickering, Glenmora and Avoyelles.

Kaylee Bradley and Jolie West are key players, along with superstars Akeelah Hobson and Emani Young.

23. Doyle, 23-3 (previous rank: 25) - LHSAA Power Rating Division II non-select No. 2

The Lady Tigers have won 14 straight games since consecutive losses to Albany and Walker.

Junior small forward Kylee Savant is an excellent player in transition, getting steals near her team's basket and directing things coast to coast for transition buckets. Junior Alyson Fletcher is a deadly shooter from the perimeter.

24. Amite, 17-5 (previous rank: 22) - LHSAA Power Rating Division III non-select No. 3

The Lady Warriors lost a District 7-3A grudge match to Albany, 60-49, and have a non-district game vs. Division I non-select No. 9 Slidell (16-1) set for Jan. 19. Sophomore point guard Kayla Toefield is a player to watch.

25. Vandebilt Catholic, 11-6 (previous rank: NR) - LHSAA Power Rating Division II select No. 2

The Lady Terriers have won three consecutive games after losing six of nine. That nine-game stretch included setbacks to a host of tough teams such as Wossman, John Curtis Christian (twice), Walker, Huntington and Fairview. Four of the losses were by 10-or-fewer points.

Players to watch include Journee Johnson (6-0, So.), Makayla Charles (5-9, So.) and Tyanna Stewart (5-9, So.).
