Louisiana high school football computer rankings (10/17/2023)

Check out SBLive's custom rankings formula for every classification of Louisiana football

With the Louisiana high school football season in full swing, SBLive Sports has released its 2023 Louisiana high school football computer rankings for every classification.

We will continue to release our computer rankings weekly for the duration of the season.

There's a new No. 1 in the Class 5A rankings for this week, as Ruston takes over the top spot. The Bearcats are listed with a 6-1 record, but that loss - to Warren Easton in the season opener - was later forfeited by the Eagles.

St. Thomas More remains the top-ranked team in Class 4A, while Jena stays at No. 1 in 3A. In 2A, St. Charles Catholic vaults ahead of Calvary Baptist for the top spot, while there's also a change at the top in 1A, with Vermilion Catholic taking over at No. 1.

SBLive's formula was created using its own linear algebra-based ranking algorithm inspired by the Colley Bias-Free Ranking Method. Colley’s Method was created by Wes Colley, Ph.D., an astrophysicist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He devised his algorithm to help address the subjectivity and controversy regarding BCS college football selections in the 1990s and early 2000s, using a method that used no subjective variables.
