Indiana high school football: Top standouts, best performances in Week 4

We're taking a look at some of the top standouts and performers from Indiana high school football games in Week 3.

Jalen Alexander, RB, Hamilton Southeastern

A senior, Alexander continued his impressive season with a strong performance in HSE’s thrilling 35-34 overtime victory over Fishers. The Division I prospect rushed 17 times for 200 yards, including touchdown runs of 96 and 72 yards.

Tanner Apselet, QB, Lawrence North

Apselet carried the Lawrence North offense in a 49-14 win over North Central on Friday. The junior completed 11 of 16 passes for 320 yards and five touchdowns – four in the first half – as the Wildcats rolled.

Brady Ballart, RB/LB, South Dearborn

Ballart made an impact on both sides of the ball in South Dearborn’s 32-13 victory over Connersville. Offensively, the sophomore rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he had 10 tackles (three tackles for loss) and a fumble recovery.

Ben Brandenburg, RB, Roncalli

Brandenburg ran hard for Roncalli during a matchup with Columbus North on Friday. The senior carried the ball 17 times for a game-high 134 yards and two scores to lead the Royals to a 38-10 win.

AJ Coates, LB, Evansville Reitz

Coates led a dominant Reitz defensive effort in the Panthers' 24-7 victory over rival Evansville North. The sophomore had 10 total tackles (one TFL) and a sack in the shutdown effort.  

Hogan Denny, QB, Mooresville

Denny could not be stopped in Mooresville’s Mid-State Conference matchup with Greenwood. The senior who is committed to play baseball at Indiana threw for 261 yards and a career-best five touchdowns along with 118 yards and a touchdown on the ground to lead the Pioneers to a 59-22 win.

Noah Ehrlich, QB, Crown Point

Ehrlich was a dual threat in Crown Point’s 38-12 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Lake Central. The junior completed 16 of 24 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball three times for 55 yards and another two scores.

Brady Fisher, QB, Mishawaka

Fisher had a near-perfect performance for the Cavemen in their 48-13 victory over Goshen. The senior completed eight of his nine passes for 210 yards and four touchdowns. He also racked up 46 rushing yards and another score.

Jackson Gilbert, QB, Westfield

Gilbert threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Shamrocks to a 28-21 win over Noblesville. 

Thomas Gotkowski, QB, Ben Davis

The Giants couldn't keep up with nationally-ranked Florida powerhouse IMG Academy on Friday night but Gotkowski tossed two touchdown passes – to Mark Zackery and Nate Williams – in the 34-14 loss.

Eugene Hilton, WR, Zionsville

Hilton, a standout junior, racked up seven receptions for 123 yards and two scores as the Eagles scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull out an impressive 24-10 win at Franklin Central on Friday. 

Brauntae Johnson, QB, Fort Wayne North Side

A Notre Dame commit, Johnson starred in North Side’s 70-39 victory over crosstown rival Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran. The senior passed for 250 yards and three touchdowns while adding 65 yards and another three touchdowns on the ground. 

Breckan Maran, RB, Fairfield

A junior, Maran was a workhorse for the Falcons during their matchup with Culver Academies. He carried the ball 33 times for 141 yards and three scores to lead Fairfield to a 39-31 victory.

Khobie Martin, RB, Fishers

Martin did the heavy lifting for the Tigers during their 35-34 loss in overtime against Hamilton Southeastern. The senior Miami (OH) commit carried the ball 37 times for a massive 285 yards and three scores.

Coltyn McNabb, RB/LB, North Daviess

McNabb was a key contributor on both sides of the ball for North Daviess in its 42-27 victory over Princeton on Friday. The junior rushed for 215 yards and a touchdown, caught two passes for 51 yards and three touchdowns, and on defense he totaled seven tackles (1.5 TFL) and an interception. 

DJ Mendez, QB, Scecina Memorial

Mendez did it all for the Scecina offense on Friday. The senior threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns to go with 71 yards and a touchdown on the ground in a 44-24 win over Indiana Crossroads Conference rival Beech Grove. 

Kobe Meyer, QB, Heritage

Meyer did it all for Heritage against South Adams on Friday. The senior threw for 116 yards and three touchdowns, ran for 182 yards and three scores and converted on all four of his extra point kicks to lead the Patriots to a 34-14 win.

Gavin Neal, QB, New Palestine

Neal had the hot hand for the Dragons 63-39 win over Mt. Vernon. The sophomore completed six of 11 passes for 256 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offensive outburst.

Garrett Sherrell, RB, Brownsburg

A senior, Sherrell made several big plays in Brownsburg’s 53-30 win over Avon. He rushed for 182 yards and three scores and added a 77-yard touchdown reception.

Jace Stuckey, QB, Triton Central

Stuckey completed 11 of 13 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown as the Tigers defeated Monrovia 55-28.

Roland Vera Jr., WR, Evansville Reitz

Vera caught 15 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers defeated Evansville North 24-7 on Friday. The senior wideout has 25 receptions for 366 yards and three scores in his last two games.

Malachi Walden, QB, Tri-West

Walden ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns and threw a TD pass to lead Tri-West to a 26-21 win over Western Boone.

Jackson Willis, QB, Indianapolis Lutheran

Willis had a great performance in the Saints' 43-13 victory over a talented Triton Central team on Friday. The junior tossed three touchdown passes to lead Lutheran to its 33rd consecutive victory.
