Two people shot at McEachern High School (Georgia), home of nationally renowned basketball team

Police officials say neither of the victims are current students at McEachern

McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, was the site of a shooting Thursday, which saw two individuals injured by gunfire.

Cobb County Schools confirmed that two people were shot and that the suspects are still on the run. Neither individual is a current student at the school.

Cobb County School police on the scene said the shooting took place in the parking lot at the school.

According to a report by WSB-TV 2 Atlanta, dozens of law enforcement officials and vehicles were on the scene of the incident.

“It was never an active shooter,” police said to WSB-TV 2 Atlanta. “When we get these calls, we don’t know if this is an active shooter or not, so we treat it like it is.”

McEachern is one of the state’s top high school boys basketball teams. The Indians were ranked in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings earlier this season.

The McEachern boys and girls basketball teams are not scheduled to play games Thursday night and are slated to take the court again on February 6. McEachern’s boys basketball team is 18-5 on the season and plays next week against North Paulding.
