MONTVERDE, FLORIDA – Brewster Academy (New Hampshire), the No. 11 team in the latest SBLive/Sports Illustrated Boys Basketball Power 25 national rankings, broke away from a 38-38 halftime tie with Calvary Christian (Florida) and pulled away for a 86-65 opening round win in the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT).
Dwayne Aristode connected on seven of 14 three-point attempts and finished with a game-high 21 points to lead Brewster. DJ Shrine added four from beyond the arc and scored 15 points, while Nojus Indrusitis and Preston Fowler each netted 11. Daniel Jacobsen led the way with 10 rebounds.
Cayden Daughtery had a hot hand for Calvary Christian, hitting six three-pointers and finishing with 20 points. Collin Paul netted 17 for the Warriors and Shon Abaev scored 16.
The tournament will feature three national ranked teams, including No. 1 Montverde and No. 4 Prolific Prep (California) and six McDonald's All-Americans.
