Jocarian Garrett, 2025 running back, to transfer from Cottondale to Homestead

Garrett rushed for nearly 1,800 yards last season in the Florida Panhandle region

The mythical 'high school transfer portal' is in full effect in South Florida.

One of the state finalists from the 2023 season, the Homestead Broncos, are about to bring in another player from ways away from Dade County.

SBLive Sports Florida confirmed that junior running Jocarian Garrett will be transferring from Cottondale to Homestead. Garrett rushed for 1,769 yards and scored 16 touchdowns last season for the 7-4 Hornets of Class 1R.

The tailback's best game of the 2023 season came in a 52-30 win over Wewahitchka, carrying the ball 27 times for 236 yards and scoring two touchdowns.

Garrett will be moving quite a ways from his small Florida Panhandle town of Cottondale, which is approximately 587 miles away from Homestead. The town of Cottondale is about 76 miles west of Tallahassee.

The junior running back isn't the first athlete that will be moving into Homestead. Just last week, 2025 quarterback Malachi 'Bubba' Lewis announced that he would be transferring from Montclair High School of New Jersey down to the Sunshine State.

To give perspective on that kind of move, Lewis will be heading just over 1,300 miles away down to the gates of the Florida Keys.

Homestead is reloading after a consecutive season finishing as the Class 3M state runner-up to St. Thomas Aquinas, but has some solid pieces to make another run. Along with newbies Garrett, Lewis is returning 2025 4-star wide receiver Cortez Mills, who caught 53 passes for 1,136 yards in 2023.
