With all the focus on high school football as the playoffs get going, we get a little closer to girls hoops action in the Sunshine State.

Yes, basketball season on the high school circuit is right around the corner and we want to start getting ready by checking in with our hoops fans out there. With lists, polls and rankings all starting to trickle out, we’ve got ours starting roll out as well. 

We ask you the fan to start off who is the best returning scorer in Florida girls high school basketball for the 2023-2024 season? We give you 12 candidates to pick from down below. Let us know or even put in a write-in candidate.

Here are the nominations: 

Trinity Turner, Dr. Phillips: The Mississippi State commitment is coming off back-to-back state championships with the Panthers. Turner last season averaged 20.6 points per game for the defending Class 7A state champions. 

Lena Girardi, IMG Academy: Girardi, the daughter of former MLB manager Joe Girardi, is coming off a strong 2022-2023 campaign with the Lions. The combo guard through 28 games for Westminster Academy averaged 23.3 points last year. 

Trinidy Harris, Wildwood: As sophomore guard for the Wildcats, Harris had a very nice 2022-2023 campaign. Harris is another combo guard that had a strong season, averaging 22.8 points per game through 24 games. 

Lorianys Castanon Cruz, Mulberry: Among the sophomore class last season, Castanon Cruz was the top scorer of them all. The shooting guard played in 14 games last season and averaged 30.3 points per game. 

Adena Webster, Archbishop Carroll: Though Webster only played in 13 games for the Mavericks, she had no problem scoring points in bunches. Webster averaged 34.4 points per game, leading all juniors. 

Tatiana Matthews, Dunnellon: The Tigers enjoyed a solid 2022-2023 season with Matthews leading the way. Matthews played a little bit of point and shooting guard for Dunnellon, averaging 30.7 points per game. 

Emely Rodriguez, Central Pointe Christian Academy: Rodriguez helped Horeb Christian reach the Class 2A state championship last season with the kind of year she had. The shooting guard averaged 26.4 points per game through 21 contests. 

Marissa Buchard, LaBelle: As a junior, Buchard was able to have a coming out party at LaBelle. The shooting guard averaged 22.8 points per game through 23 contests. 

Philleah Bright, Suncoast: The Chargers went 11-15 last season, but Bright was the team's top player and scorer. Last season Bright averaged 21.4 points per game through 25 contests for Suncoast. 

Avery Chatman, East Lake: Chatman had herself a very impressive freshman campaign for the Eagles. The combo guard averaged 29.4 points per game through 24 games. 

Jasleen Green, Plantation American Heritage: The Patriots had a pretty strong season in 2022-2023 and a lot of that can be credited to the play of Green. Green last season through 29 games averaged 21.2 points per game. 

Ja'Niyah McCoy, Forest: Another freshman that really came onto the girls basketball circuit and pouring in the points was McCoy. The Wildcats' guard averaged 20.2 points through 25 contests.
