Chivas Lee, Liberty Magnet boys basketball
The guard scored a team-high 16 points and was named Most Outstanding Player of the Patriots' 62-58 win over St. Thomas More in the Division I select state finals. Lee made 4-of-4 field goals in the first quarter with three 3-pointers as Liberty surged to a 20-0 lead. Lee is one of six juniors who will return next season.
Zachary Schuler, Marksville boys basketball
The senior was named Most Outstanding Player of the Division III non-select finals, scoring 19 points with eight rebounds and shooting 8-for-10 from the field in the sixth-seeded Tigers' 67-59 win over Red River. It was the first state title in any sport for the school.
Dwight Magee, Crescent City Christian boys basketball
The top-seeded Pioneers won the Division IV select state championship with a 71-59 win over district rival St. Martin's Episcopal. Magee, a sophomore, was named Most Outstanding Player (25 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, two blocks, two assists). The Pioneers finished with a 25-5 record.
Jalen Brown, Avoyelles Public Charter boys basketball
The junior guard was named Most Outstanding Player of the Division V select finals, posting 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting in a 40-38 win over J.S. Clark. The top-seeded Vikings repeated as state champs, and Brown nabbed top player honors again.
Jordan Mathews, Peabody Magnet boys basketball
The Warhorses' big man scored 12 points and muscled his way around a tall Madison Prep team to grab 14 rebounds in a 43-40 overtime win in the Division II select state title game. Mathews was named Most Outstanding Player. Peabody picked up its 10th state title.
Taj Jackson, Ponchatoula boys basketball
The senior guard helped guarantee a repeat state championship for the Green Wave, scoring 24 points with eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists in a 75-60 win over Natchitoches Central. Ponchatoula (30-4) won its last 14 games.
Jordan Comanche, Wossman boys basketball
The senior guard totaled 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Wildcats' 70-65 win over top-seeded Iowa in the Division II non-select title game. It was the fourth state title for Wossman (34-4).
Treyshaun Mack, Franklin boys basketball
The junior forward scored 12 points to pace the Hornets to their first state championship since 1958. Franklin, which lost in the 2023 finals to North Central, defeated No. 1 Lakeview, 50-45. Mack nabbed Most Outstanding Player honors.
Chris Cenac, Isidore Newman boys basketball
Cenac scored 19 points with eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals in the Greenies' 59-46 win over University Lab in the Division III select championship game. It was the third straight crown and ninth overall for Newman.
Howard Etheridge, Zwolle boys basketball
The Hawks repeated as Division V non-select state champs, beating Anacoco by a 45-41 margin. Etheridge scored 13 points and earned Most Outstanding Player honors. Zwolle now has a record 17 state championships, one more than Southern Lab.
Mason Marie, Parkview Baptist baseball
Marie went 2-for-4 with a double and hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the Eagles' 3-2 win over West Monroe. Parkview Baptist is 10-2 and No. 1 in the Division III select power ratings with consecutive wins over Class 5A programs Denham Springs, Destrehan and West Monroe.
Brycen Dartez, South Beauregard baseball
The senior worked 5 1/3 innings and was the winning pitcher in a 3-1 win over Barbe. The Knights are 10-2 and No. 1 in the Division II non-select power ratings. The win over the defending Division I non-select state champion Buccaneers avenged South Beauregard's loss to Barbe in the season opener.
Mason Hickman, Mandeville baseball
The junior had three hits and three RBIs in a 6-1 win over Jesuit. The Skippers are 10-3 and No. 10 in the Division I non-select power ratings.
Jayce Coile, Calvary Baptist baseball
The senior blasted a two-run, standup double that helped the Cavaliers clinch a 4-3 win over Class 5A Northshore. Calvary Baptist is 9-4 and No. 3 in the Division III select power ratings.
Aidan Achberger, St. Michael baseball
Achberger pitched a complete game six-hitter with two strikeouts in a 2-1 win over a Denham Springs team that was undefeated.
Braylen Montgomery, Walker baseball
The sophomore hit the Wildcats' first home run of the season on a full count in a 12-0 win over Beau Chene. Walker is 9-4 and No. 16 in the Division I non-select power ratings.
Logan Sorrel, Dunham baseball
The sophomore threw a complete game one-hit shutout as the Tigers defeated Class 5A Brother Martin, 2-0. Dunham is 9-4 and No. 4 in the Division III select power ratings.
Caroline Stephens, Fontainebleau softball
The sophomore batted 7-for-9 as her team split games with Pine and Loranger in a tournament at Hammond. The Lady Dawgs scored 64 runs over their last three games, which include two wins and a 23-22 loss to Loranger.
Katelynn Kempton, John Curtis Christian softball
The senior batted .625 with two home runs and three doubles in wins over Airline and Walker. She also got the win in the circle vs. Airline. John Curtis is 10-5 and No. 5 in the Division I select power ratings.
Amberly Dempster, Hahnville softball
The junior hit her third and fourth home runs of the season as the Lady Tigers went 2-1 with wins over D'Arbonne Woods Charter and Caldwell Parish and a one-run loss to East Ascension. Hahnville is 9-7 and No. 15 in the Division I non-select power ratings.
Ava Segura, St. Thomas More softball
The junior batted .545 with three home runs and 11 RBIs during a week that saw the Lady Cougars go 4-0 with wins over Teurlings Catholic, Lafayette Christian, New Iberia and Opelousas Catholic. STM (15-1), which is No. 1 in the Division I select power ratings, has outscored its last six opponents, 76-2.
Jolie Gawlik, Parkview Baptist softball
The freshman launched an inside-the-park grand slam that tied the score in the bottom of the seventh against Assumption. The Lady Eagles went on to win, 13-11, as Gawlik had a team-high five RBIs. Parkview Baptist (6-5) is No. 13 in the Division III select power ratings.
Kayla Giardina, Archbishop Chapelle softball
The senior Southern Miss commit pitched a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Division I non-select No. 1 Dutchtown. Archbishop Chapelle is 9-3 and No. 6 in the Division I select power ratings. Giardina was recently recognized for her 600th career strikeout.
Tristan Allen, Central-Baton Rouge softball
The junior socked four homers, upping her season total to seven, in wins over South Beauregard and Benton. The Lady Cats (7-6) are on a four-game winning streak.
Jaidan Richard, Mamou softball
The junior laced a double and two triples as her team split games with West Feliciana and Ascension Christian. Richard picked up nine strikeouts in the circle in the win over Ascension Christian. Mamou is 9-2 and No. 6 in the Division III non-select power ratings.
Cayden Tullier, East Ascension softball
A sophomore, Tullier had a big week for her squad. She hit .417 with an on-base percentage of .632, scored 10 runs and drove in seven more. In her most recent game, she hit a home run, as Tullier now has nine homers on the season.
Skylar Branch, Franklinton softball
Branch, a NACC (Northeast Alabama) commit, had 12 strikeouts and hit two home runs as the Lady Demons defeated Hammond. She also had 14 strikeouts and went 4-for-4 at the plate in a win against Fountainbleau; then had 17 strikeouts and had a pair of hits at the plate as Franklinton defeated Albany. The Lady Demons (4-1) have won three straight games.
