Watch: Hialeah (Florida) game winning field goal appears wide left

Overtime boot may have cost Dr. Krop a spot in the state playoffs

MIAMI, FLORIDA – The Hialeah high football team ended its 2023 regular season on a high note, Friday, even if it was a controversial victory.

The Thoroughbreds (9-1), who had already locked up their first district title in four years prior to the contest, were pushed to overtime by host Dr. Krop (4-6) in a South Florida classic.

Everything came down to a 27-yard field goal attempt by Hialeah's Oxley Christiani in overtime. Christiani's kick, which sailed towards the left upright, was ruled good, giving Hialeah a walk-off, 24-21, victory.

Upon closer examination, with the video slowed down, the kick appears to have sailed wide left of the goal post. In the video, as the kick made its way beyond the uprights, both teams celebrated the outcome. The video also shows the official, under the left upright, not make a signal immediately as he glances to his colleague under the opposite upright.

The outcome certainly cost Dr. Krop a chance to finish with a .500 record and opportunity to improve their chances of making the postseason.
