We’ve selected 11 candidates to choose from this past week’s games

High school football is back in the Sunshine State and so begins our player of the week polls for areas all around the state. Teams started off the regular season with some great individual performances in Week 8.

As such, we have 11 athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s Northeast Florida high school football defensive player of the week award from October 12-14, and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, October 21st at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced in next week's poll. 


Northeast Florida Defensive Player of the Week

Here are this week's nominations:

Jayden Taylor, DB, Raines: The safety racked up a team-high 12 tackles in the Vikings 47-18 win over rival Ribault. 

Keyon Gardner, LB, Paxon: Gardner notched a team-high 10 tackles in a 26-6 loss to Beachside. 

Carl Graham, DB, Andrew Jackson: The free safety totaled 11 tackles in the Tigers 47-8 loss to Riverside. 

Case Foster, LB, Baker County: The middle linebacker had a team-high 12 tackles in the Wildcats’ 32-14 win over Yulee.

Chase Phillips, DB, Baker County: Phillips, a freshman defensive back, notched 10 tackles and an interception in the team’s win over Yulee. 

John King, DE, Providence School: The hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end had 2.5 sacks in the Stallions’ 42-28 win over Master’s Academy. 

Clayton Long, DL, Creekside: Long nabbed a team-high 12 tackles and two went for a loss in the Knights 31-19 loss to Bartram Trail. 

Maddoxx Lehman, LB, Menendez: The Falcons’ linebacker tallied a team-high 15 tackles in the team’s 20-13 victory over Clay. 

Jackson Copeland, LB, Mandarin: Copeland had a big night in the Mustangs’ 56-19 win over Fleming Island, notching 14 tackles, two for a loss and a sack. 

Landon Scaff, DB, West Nassau: The strong safety tallied two interceptions in the team’s 7-6 win over Fernandina Beach. 

Cam Anderson, LB, Trinity Christian Academy: The hard hitting linebacker racked up 10 tackles and three went for a loss in a 14-0 win over University Christian.
