It's the halfway point of the 2023 high school football season, and the defenses in Southwest Florida are still going strong.

Southwest Florida Defensive Player of the Week

Here are this week's nominees:

Justin Compere, Immokalee: Forced a fumble then recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown against South Fort Myers.

Grant Coppens, Fort Myers: Blocked a punt and recovered a fumble to help the Green Wave beat East Lee 34-16.

Jermaine Fabien, Golden Gate: Returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a TD against First Baptist.

Anthony Harris, Island Coast: Recovered a fumble and ran 30 yards for a touchdown against Mariner.

Kelvin Jimenez, Mariner: Totaled seven tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal in a win over Island Coast.

Wally Monpremier, Lely: Had a fumble return for a touchdown in Lely's 40-10 win over Bonita Springs.

Gavin Postudensek, Estero: Scored a touchdown on an interception return as the Wildcats won 31-14 over Gateway.

Paul Ryniec, Charlotte: Credited for 20 tackles, five of them for loss, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in a 35-14 win over Riverdale.

Calvin Scott, Lehigh: Returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown in a 42-6 win over Ida Baker.

R.J. Williams, Gulf Coast: Snagged an interception and also scored both his team's touchdowns in a 14-10 win over Palmetto Ridge.
