Lincoln wins third straight, 14th San Francisco Section boys basketball championship
What started so shaky has turned rock solid for the Lincoln boys basketball team.
The Mustangs, with just two starters back from a 27-4 team, started the season 3-9 but on Friday they showed just how far they've come.
Lincoln never wavered even during some rough patches to win their third straight San Francisco Section championship and 14th overall with a 61-53 win over rival Lowell at Kezar Pavilion.
Lowell (20-10) had cut a big lead to two in the final three minutes, but Demarco Reed Jr. powered in a bucket before Kaleb Bahn drilled a baseline jumper and the Mustangs (21-10) were on their way to their 18th win in last 19 games.
Somarri Tanner hit four key free throws down the stretch to secure the victory for the Mustangs, who also got stellar play from Nathan Yip and Ceyaan Lutt.
Tanner finished with a team-high 20 points, and Reed contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds. Yip and Lutt combined for 15 points.
Jett Tran led all scorers with 24 points for Lowell, while Jalen Ly added 14.
