Welcome to live updates from the 2024 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Wrestling Championships from Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield.
Late in day two, Poway out of the San Diego Section leads both the boys and the girls, though it's very close between the girls. Just two points separate the top four teams: Poway (46), Gilroy (45), Newport Harbor (45) and first-day leader Walnut (44).
Poway boys have built a bigger cushion with 166.5 points to runner-up Buchanan (147). Central Coast Section power Gilroy (127) is hovering around third and Southern Section power St. John Bosco is fourth at 117.
The semifinalists in all weight classes have been decided after quarterfinal matches. (117). (See all the matchups below).
Former state champions Ronnie Ramirez (Walnut, 120), Isaiah Quintero (Eldorado, 120), Isaiah Cortez (Gilroy, 126), Elijah Cortez (Gilroy, 132), Daniel Zepeda (Gilroy, 138), Brock Mantanona (Palm Desert, 150), Miguel Estrada (Frontier, 150), Robert Platt (Poway, 215), Cody Merrill (Gilroy, 285) and Nicholas Sahakian (St. John Bosco, 285) have all advanced to the semifinals.
This is the 51st event for the boys and 13th for the girls that determines the very best individuals and teams in the Golden State. This is the fifth year the boys and girls tournaments have run at the same time.

There is no classification, no divisions, it's simply the best wrestlers regardless of school size, league or section.
Through Friday's round 1 of consolations and heading into quarterfinal championship rounds, boys' favorites Buchanan (117) and Poway (115) are slugging it out for the top spot, followed by Gilroy (87), clovis (83), St. John Bosco (72) and Bakersfield (70).
For the girls, first-day leader Walnut continues to lead with 38 points, followed by Gilroy and Santa Ana (33), Newport Harbor (30), Pittman (28) and Poway (25).
