Mater Dei, Windward, Santa Margarita rise; Vista Murrieta, Arcadia and Anaheim Canyon debuts

The latest high school basketball rankings in the CIF Southern Section as of Jan. 7, 2024.

1. Eastvale Roosevelt (18-1)

The Mustangs have won 13 in a row. The latest victory came over Santa Maria St. Joseph, 62-61, thanks to Brayden Burries' 26 points. Big XIII game against Corona Centennial Tuesday.

2. Harvard-Westlake (17-1)

The Wolverines' trio of Trent Perry, Robert Hinton and Nik Khamenia playing well. Mission League games against Crespi and Loyola next week before heading to the Hoophall Classic for MLK weekend.

3. Mater Dei (17-1)

The Monarchs rout St. John Bosco at Crypto.com Arena Saturday night thanks to Brandon Benjamin.

4. Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks (17-0)

Mercy Miller is playing well enough to be a McDonald's All-American. He scored 39 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in a double overtime win over De La Salle Saturday night.

5. St. John Bosco (15-3)

The Braves are navigating through identity issues. St. John Bosco has lost two out of its last four games.

6. Sierra Canyon (17-1)

Isaiah Elohim scored 16 points in his return this past week. The Trailblazers beat St. Pius 51-42 Saturday. Loyola and Crespi next week in league play.

7. Corona Centennial (13-7)

The Huskies beat Campbell Hall 78-66 on Saturday and can bolster its Open Division playoff candidacy against Eastvale Roosevelt at home Tuesday.

8. Damien (14-3)

The Spartans are vying for a favorable seed in the Open Division playoffs as other teams trip up in big games, like St. Pius and JSerra.

9. Windward (15-3)

The Wildcats has won seven of their last eight and are proving that any player can be a leading scorer on any given night.

10. JSerra (15-3)

The Lions drop two straight to St. John Bosco and Mater Dei, but the question now becomes where do they stand as it pertains to the other formidable teams in the Trinity League like Santa Margarita and Orange Lutheran. We'll find out when JSerra plays both this week.

11. St. Pius (12-4)

The Warriors fall to West Ranch and Sierra Canyon in the last 10 days. It creates less room for error the rest of the season in the Del Rey League.

12. Santa Margarita (15-4)

The Eagles are on a 5-game winning streak with two huge Trinity League games this week against a wobbling St. John Bosco and frustrated JSerra.

13. West Ranch (9-9)

The Wildcats have beaten St. Pius and Etiwanda in the last 10 days. James Evans continues to show why he's headed to UNLV.

14. Vista Murrieta (19-1)

The Broncos have won 11 straight and are led by freshman Cisco Munoz (15ppg).

15. Arcadia (11-5)

The Apaches move to 5-0 in the Pacific League after beating Pasadena 56-52. Jordan Dollar is averaging 19 points per game.

16. Etiwanda (15-2)

The Eagles fall to West Ranch in a big game that could've helped their Open Division resume.

17. Anaheim Canyon (13-4)

Canyon has high-quality losses to Damien and Etiwanda, but its most recent win over Crespi puts it in the Top 25. Jaden and Josh Goodall are leading the way.

18. Pasadena (15-3)

The Bulldogs drop after a league loss to Arcadia last week.

19. Crespi (18-3)

The Celts pick up a Mission League win Friday night over St. Francis, but stumble on Saturday to Anaheim Canyon. Big week coming for Crespi with Harvard-Westlake and Sierra Canyon coming.

20. Redondo Union (13-4)

The Sea Hawks beat Crean Lutheran over the weekend. Devin Ringer had 22 points.

21. Long Beach Poly (10-7)

The Jackrabbits have won six straight, including wins over St. Francis, Westlake and Gardena Serra. Jovani Ruff might be one of the best floor-game players in SoCal.

22. St. Anthony (14-4)

The Saints beat St. Bernard 75-72 - big win.

23. La Mirada (14-7)

Who else? Gene Roebuck scores 30-plus in a showcase win over Rancho Cucamonga.

24. San Gabriel Academy (8-4)

SGA beats St. Francis 49-46.

25. Heritage Christian (12-8)

The Warriors have been competing amid a very tough schedule, including a bout with Harvard-Westlake over the weekend, losing 74-62.
