Top 25 California high school boys basketball rankings: CIF Southern Section (12/4/2023)

JSerra rises after big win over Roosevelt; Redondo Union leaps into Top 15; and Pasadena joins the fold after giving Crespi first loss

Here are the latest high school boys basketball rankings in the CIF Southern Section as of December 4, 2023.

1. Harvard-Westlake (6-0)

The Wolverines remain unbeaten after their most recent win at the Hoophall West in Arizona, beating Perry High.

2. St. John Bosco (3-0)

The Braves host the Braves Winter Classic this week and will likely run into Windward or La Mirada in the final on Saturday.

3. JSerra (7-0)

The Lion's big double overtime win over Eastvale Roosevelt puts them in the No. 3 spot. Aidan Fowler and Sebastian Rancik led the way.

4. Corona Centennial (3-3)

The Huskies have played a gauntlet of a schedule in the early going that includes travel. Eric Freeny and Carter Bryant are bringing the young guys along.

5. Mater Dei (3-0)

The Monarchs have yet to challenge themselves this year, and they might drop next week if they keep beating non-contending teams by 40.

6. Eastvale Roosevelt (6-1)

The Mustangs are an Open Division lock. Brayden Burries is among the best juniors in California along with Harvard-Westlake's Nik Khamenia.

7. Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks (5-0)

Mercy Miller had his third 30-plus point game this season in the Knight's big win over Fairfax this week. Notre Dame has a nice matchup with Campbell Hall at home Wednesday night.

8. Sierra Canyon (5-1)

Justin Pippen and Noah Williams each had 23 points in an overtime loss to Desert Mountain (AZ) at the Hoophall West in Arizona. Pippen also had 10 rebounds and four steals.

9. La Mirada (8-1)

The Matadores' only loss came to Open Division state champs Harvard-Westlake this past week. Julien Gomez had 37 points. Freshman Gene Roebuck might be the best freshman in the state. La Mirada will be just fine.

10. Damien (6-1)

The Spartans' only loss remains to be a 55-54 defeat to La Mirada thus far.

11. St. Pius X (2-0)

The litmus test for St. Pius comes Wednesday on the road to Harvard-Westlake.

12. Los Alamitos (8-1)

The Griffins fell to Corona Centennial 77-71. Quality game coming against Etiwanda on Wednesday.

13. Etiwanda (6-0)

The Eagles remain unbeaten after winning the IE Classic. Amare Campbell was named MVP

14. Redondo Union (5-0)

The SeaHawks' 76-61 win over Heritage Christian on Saturday catapults them into the Top 15 after being No. 20 last week.

15. St. Bernard (4-0)

St. Bernard eked out a 90-80 overtime win over Beverly Hills at the Redondo Union tournament last week. Caleb Versher had 18 points.

SCA's DeMarco Johnson (2025) transfers to Santa Margarita.

16. Pasadena (4-0)

The Bulldogs join the Top 25 after beating Crespi 53-50 in the Roundball Classic at Maranatha in the tournament final. Desmond Every had 19 points and Jovan Jester added 18 in a tournament MVP performance.

17. Crespi (8-1)

The Celts lose their first game this week, but have already proven to be a contender for an automatic qualifier spot out of the Mission League just three weeks into the season.

18. Windward (5-1)

The Wildcats' lone loss is to Crespi, but have quality wins over Santa Margarita, LB Poly and Lynwood.

19. Heritage Christian (3-3)

The Warriors have a chance to shake things up at the Beach Bash in Corona del Mar this week - an early litmus test with a game scheduled against JSerra.

20. West Ranch (3-2)

The Wildcats have won 38 straight Foothill League games.

21. Rancho Cucamonga (6-1)

The Cougars' only loss this season is to Etiwanda in the IE Classic final.

22. Mira Costa (4-2)

Once again, Mira Costa challenging itself this past week in a loss to Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks.

23. Santa Margarita (3-3)

The Eagles will add the services of new transfer DeMarco Johnson after he transferred from Southern California Academy. The 6-foot-3 junior guard has an offer to Texas.

24. Bishop Montgomery (5-1)

A narrow overtime win over Long Beach Poly has the Knights 5-1 and just inside the Top 25.

25. St. Francis (8-1)

The Golden Knights won the King's Academy Tournament thanks to the play of Mazi Mosley, who had 38 points in the semifinal win.
